Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting President of NOW, the Human Resources (HR) Manager will develop and implement HR processes and policies, manage full-cycle recruiting and onboarding, partner with benefits broker to manage employee benefits including annual open enrollment, oversee and lead employee relations matters including staff training and enhance HR systems for practices that align with compliance and business objectives. This position is an ideal opportunity for an HR professional looking to expand their Leadership experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for timely, tactful, and responsive management of all employee relations issues, seeking legal or outside counsel as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to review and evaluate current HR systems and processes, as well as develop, implement and integrate new or updated HR processes and systems to ensure essential aspects of employee administration is executed on time, accurately and efficiently.
  • Manage full cycle employee administration to include: recruitment and onboarding, employee status changes, employee file maintenance, and offboarding.
  • Create, maintain and update HR policies and Employee Handbook annually
  • Administer staff-wide training
  • Act as liaison and partner with Accounting on HR related matters including payroll, benefits, HRIS system implementation and configuration, etc.
  • Manage and oversee Leave of Absence
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and local rules, laws and regulations with respect to maintaining employee personnel records.
  • Stay current on industry best practices and innovative trends as well as ensure the HR department stays ahead of the curve on these practices/trends.
  • Propose changes to existing policies & practices and introduce new policies to improve HR systems, and functions.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • BS/BA in Management, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, related degree or equivalent experience.
  • Professional HR Certification (SHRM CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR) preferred.
  • At least six (6) years of broad HR experience
  • At least three (3) years of employee relations management experience
  • Expert knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook), experience with Paychex HRIS a plus.
  • Ability to liaison with the President on all HR matters, including proposed solutions and proactive recommendations.
  • Ability to work as the sole internal HR contact
  • Ability to listen openly, think strategically and influence across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a leadership team, promoting mutual accountability and inspiring trust and confidence from staff.
  • Proven experience identifying and leading change and building this capability in others.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, policies and practices related to the functional area, especially Washington, DC.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is largely sedentary in nature however one must possess the ability to speak, hear, and write as well as the ability to use a computer and related software programs, and lift up to 20 lbs. Ongoing local and/or national travel periodically required.
