Job Summary:
Primarily responsible for providing effective customer service for all internal and external customers by utilizing excellent, in-depth knowledge of hospital admissions and outpatient services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Interview patients to obtain insurance benefits, proof of coverage and pre-certification/authorization for inpatients, surgical patients, and required outpatients.
* Registers outpatients and prepares proper documentation for outpatient procedures where applicable.
* Processes inpatient admissions and prepares proper documentation for services where applicable.
* Accepts patient payments and records appropriately.
* Greet and assist patients and visitors in a manner consistent with Hospital customer service guidelines.
* Advise patients regarding insurance coverage and estimate patient's responsibility.
* Inform patients of available sources of assistance from outside public and private agencies or refer the patient to a financial counselor.
* Obtain verification of insurance coverage and benefits payable from insurance companies or other third-party payers.

* Basic computer knowledge
* Basic medical terminology
* Good typing skills
