POSITION TITLE: Food Services Staff (6:45am-2:00pm)
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Food Services/Olathe South High School
STATUS: Classified - Non-Exempt, Full Time
HOURS OF WORK- 6.75 hours per day/167 days/year
HOURLY PAY: $15.00

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the purpose/s of providing support to the food service activities at assigned locations with specific responsibilities for preparing and serving food items to students and/or school personnel; and maintaining food service facilities and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Arranges food and beverage items and sets up appropriate equipment for the purpose of serving assigned items to students and staff in an efficient manner.

Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.

Cleans utensils, equipment, and storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining required sanitary conditions.

Evaluates prepared food items for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications of orders to meet preparation requirements and/or complying with mandated health standards.

Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health standards.

Inventories food, condiments and supplies (e.g. napkins, silverware, straws, plates, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements.

Maintains equipment, storage, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition for the purpose of complying with current health standards.

Monitors kitchen and cafeteria areas for the purpose of ensuring a safe and sanitary working environment. Performs functions of other nutritional services positions, as requested by supervisor for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within site nutritional services operations.

Prepares food and beverage items (e.g. potatoes, rice, etc.) for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.

Serves one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.

Demonstrate understanding of verbal and written communication and ability to speak and write at a level sufficient to perform the duties of the job.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.

1-3 years working in the food service industry preferred.

Experience working in a school district preferred.

Understanding of food and facility safety and sanitation practices.

Experience operating equipment found in a commercial kitchen.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.

Ability to perform basic math and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.

Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality.

Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and utilizing data.

Ability to problem solve with data and equipment.

Ability to work under direct supervision in a fast-paced work environment with constant interruptions.

Highly collaborative team player.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the performance of medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The position involves frequent balancing, lifting, carrying, climbing, feeling, fine finger dexterity, grasping, pushing, and/or pulling; occasional walking, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and stooping. The position generally involves 75% standing, 5% sitting and 20% walking. This job is performed under temperature extremes and in some hazardous conditions that are typical in commercial kitchens.
