**POSITION PURPOSE:**

The **Material Handler** is responsible for the proper handling of materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, and internal customer service. This role performs a variety of stockroom functions including production order picking, warehouse storage, packaging of finished goods, inventory control, supply documentation, data input, and material distribution. This position works with a team to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations within the warehouse and storage facility.

This is a training position to familiarize a new employee with the packaging line and warehouse operations. It will provide experience in the operation of packaging equipment under close supervision.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:**

**Material Handling (90%)**

* Loads and unloads liquid and dry bulk material within a warehouse or storage facility.

* Safely operates material handling equipment such as hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment.

* Assists in maintaining the flow of work and materials based on scheduled supplier deliveries, customer orders, and other internal or external delivery requirements according to established priorities.

* Performs and ensures accurate and timely computer and physical transactions as well as verifies accuracy of transactions/paperwork regarding receiving, stocking, movement, shipping or other required material or goods activities.

* May prepare, mark/label/tag and/or package and assemble materials or goods for receipt, storage, delivery or shipment according to location or customer requirement.

* Samples liquid bulk and dry goods.

* Maintains and improves month end inventory accuracy. Assists or conducts activities such cycle counts, physical counts, hand counts or other inventory validation and control measures as assigned.

* Maintains orderly, clean and safe work area.

**Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Leadership (10%)**

* Operates safely within NatureWorks policies, procedures and governmental regulations and fully participates in and champions NatureWorks Environmental, Health & Safety Programs

* Ensures the Environmental, Health & Safety Programs are being followed and provides a safe working environment to our employees and customers

* Accountable for building a strong safety culture and actively pursues it on a daily basis; identifies unsafe behaviors and conditions and intervenes to mitigate incidents

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

*Education and Experience Required:*

* High School Diploma or Equivalent

* 6 months - 1 year+ of Warehouse Experience

*Education and Experience Preferred:*

* Associates degree

* 2+ years of material handling experience

* Experienced in use of forklifts

* Basic knowledge of transactions within ERP systems (SAP), preferred

* Experience working with a scanning gun

* Problem solving abilities plus mechanical aptitude is preferred.

*Other (knowledge, skills and abilities):*

* Must have a driver's license with reliable transportation.

* Sound knowledge of fundamental material handling processes as applicable including: customer order fulfillment activities & shipping, packaging, receiving, inventory control and disposition, supply documentation, data and transactional management, material distribution and/or delivery, warehouse or stockroom control techniques, and cycle or physical counting.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Must be able to manage and execute multiple activities to support the manufacturing activity.

* A positive attitude, motivated, self-starter with strong teamwork skills.

* Ability to be flexible and able to function comfortably in a fast paced, constantly changing and ambiguous environment.

* Demonstrates sound judgment when following through with priorities.

* Understands the plans for meeting the business strategy and objectives, and how it relates to daily activities.

**Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:**

* Ability to work a flexible schedule, with possible overtime when needed.

* Willing to work in a warehouse environment that can be hot, cold, dirty, encompassing all levels.

* Ability to work in a potentially physically strenuous environment.

* Ability to perform heavy lifting; capable of lifting 50 pounds repeatedly with proper ergonomic form; will follow company safety and ergonomic guide to avoid injury.
