Position description:

Calico seeks an outstanding and innovative scientist to join our Research Physiology group. The Research Physiology group is responsible for in vivo basic research and developing animal models and adapting technologies to study aging and aging-related diseases. Research will be conducted in close collaboration with our Principal Investigator-led research labs whose interests span across biological systems, including the respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous, and immune systems. This position requires extensive hands-on experience in in vivo physiology in rodents and the willingness and flexibility to collaborate with others on different projects at the same time. Candidates with experience with multiple experimental approaches and/or organ systems are particularly encouraged to apply. Position requirements:

* Ph.D. degree in Biology, Physiology, Medicine or related field with 0-8 years of relevant in vivo experience

* Experience with complex in vivo procedures in rodents (survival surgeries, gene delivery, drug delivery)

* Experience with non-invasive and invasive techniques to characterize physiological processes in vivo (implantable telemetry, functional and behavioral assays, in vivo imaging, histological and biochemical endpoints)

* Good understanding of genetic and pharmacological approaches to modulate pathways of interest

* Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills

* Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams

* Ability to work on-site for at least four days per week

Nice to have:

* Experience with viral and non-viral gene delivery in rodents

* Experience with neurodegenerative disease models

* Experience with pulmonary disease models

* Experience with immunological disease models

* Background in aging research

* Experience mentoring or supervising junior researchers

The estimated base salary range for this role is $127,000 - $172,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
