POSITION TITLE: IS Year-Round Internship

LOCATION: General Office, Eau Claire, WI

REPORTS TO: Team lead, Manager

TRAVEL REQUIRED: None

Programming Internships: Point of Sale, Menards.com Systems, Intranet & Labor Scheduling, Midwest Manufacturing, Distribution Center, Information Security, Mobile Technology and Initiatives, Design-it & Desktop Systems, Database Administration

Non-programming Internships: IT Support, Network, Infrastructure Platforms Administration, Quality Assurance

The schedule for this position is flexible and we work with your school schedule! The position requires 15-20 hours per week between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Developer Intern: provides students a valuable experience with real world applications. Interns will be involved throughout the entire development life cycle of an application and work on identifying and analyzing any problems with the help of Software Engineer Mentor.

  • Knowledge of the JAVA programming language; including JSPs, Servlets, EJBs, Spring, Object Oriented Design
  • Familiarity with XML, Eclipse, Android Studio and Visual Studio is helpful

Database Administrator Intern: will assist in the day-to-day administration, support and ongoing enhancement of Menard, Inc. database infrastructures. Interns will assist in the maintenance of database documentation, get exposure to mission-critical database environments, and learn how to support them to maximize system uptime and productivity.

Infrastructure Construction Coordinator Intern: will assist in day-to-day maintenance, system design, planning, and execution of various Infrastructure activities needed to support new growth for Menard, Inc. Interns assist in planning and scheduling for the construction of the entire environment needed to support Infrastructure Networks and Systems.

Network Administrator Intern: will assist in the day-to-day administration; support and ongoing enhancement of Menard, Inc.'s network (LAN, WAN, Wireless) infrastructures. Interns will be responsible for assisting with the tasks of installation of the Physical Plant, configuration and testing of multi-vendor network equipment. May require traveling to remote offices during the summer.
  • Preferred Knowledge: Cisco equipment and Cisco IOS; TCP/IP Protocols, Fast/Gigabit Ethernet network implementation; Router, Switch, and Wireless configuration; Modems, Terminal Servers, Dialup Servers; Security Authentication for Radius and TACACS, HTML, Python, Linus Red Hat or SUSE, Winows,7/10, Android

Infrastructure Platforms Administration Intern: will assist in the day-to-day administration; support and ongoing enhancement of Menard, Inc.'s servers. Interns must be able to work in a secure, mission-critical production-computing environment.
  • Preferred Knowledge: Windows, UNIX/Linux based servers, networking protocols, network client connectivity, mixed environments (Unix, Windows), server applications; server hardware, enterprise monitoring and management, and enterprise backup solutions

IT Support Intern: responsible for providing equipment repair assistance to the Menards's stores. Interns will assist in troubleshooting, repairing, and preventative maintenance work on the technical equipment; while also gaining great infrastructure technology experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills for problem determination and resolution

Quality Assurance Intern: will execute test cases and automated scripts in support of quality assurance processes, application testing, and data analysis of software systems in a combined Unix/Windows environment. This position works closely with Technical Leads, Application Developers and Business Analysts to ensure testing accurately reflects the desired use of the applications.
  • Basic understanding of "Blackbox" and "Whitebox" testing
  • Experience using IT development technologies, such as MSSQL, MySQL, JavaScript, Java.

Information Security Intern: will assist in the day-to-day administration, support, and ongoing enhancement of Menard, Inc.'s Information Security programs. The position requires a highly motivated, team-oriented person with excellent communication skills and an emphasis in Information Security.
Skills & Requirements

Position Requirements:
  • Pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's Degree in an Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Programming, or MIS related field (Candidates must be enrolled in a College/University)
  • Must work within normal office hours at the Corporate Office in Eau Claire, WI (remote work is not offered)
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States, presently and in the future, without sponsorship
