About this role:

At ShiftMed, we understand the importance of operating within the law while carrying out our vision. We seek a General Counsel with extensive experience practicing law, including as an in-house corporate attorney. The General Counsel (GC) will manage external counsel partners in representing ShiftMed in litigation matters, the GC will serve as our primary advisor on all legal matters, guiding the company policy to reflect legislative changes and statutory compliance. The GC will also bring expertise to help ShiftMed and our affiliates protect the interests of our clients, healthcare professionals, shareholders, and employees, and to further our company mission and goals. Specific areas of expertise will include:

Leadership and Oversight of Legal Operations:

Cultivate a strong Legal operation, with development and mentorship of team members.Lead regulatory and government affairs at national and state levels.

Contract Oversight:

Manage the contracting process to support the sales team.Review, draft, and advise on partnership and licensing agreements.Review and supervise all external vendor agreements to support and protect the interests and goals of internal business parties.Provide legal advice on contractual obligations and liabilities.

Litigation Strategy & Management:

Manage all aspects of corporate litigation, with a focus on alternative dispute resolution.Provide strategic guidance on potential legal actions and risks.Oversee and direct legal counsel as it pertains to litigation strategy.

Compliance Thought Leadership and Program Management:

Ensure the company's compliance with healthcare laws, regulations, and industry standards.Supervise the compliance and clinical compliance teams to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements and client expectations.Develop, implement, and monitor compliance program.Conduct internal audits to assess compliance with legal standards.

Labor and Employment Oversight:

Serve as subject matter expert on all employment matters, including evolving state regulations.Partner with Chief People Officer on all legal matters related to employment of a W2 Per Diem workforce.Provide legal advice on employment contracts, policies, and procedures.

Position Requirements:

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active Bar membership. Applicant must have an active law license in Virginia, or the ability to waive in.A minimum of 15 years of legal experience in the healthcare industry, and previous experience as General Counsel.In-depth knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance standardsProven experience in managing intellectual property and data privacy issuesAbility to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
