About the Position

Join our team! The Saint Paul Police Department is hiring for the role of Parking Enforcement Officer. The Parking Enforcement Officer position serves as a pathway to becoming a Saint Paul Police Officer once qualifying employees meet City promotional rights after two years of service. Parking Enforcement Officers are assigned day or afternoon shifts, and must be available for weekends and evenings for special events.

Here's what you can expect to do in this role:

  • Patrol all areas within City of Saint Paul limits and enforces all parking regulations and parking violations on City and/or private property.
  • Perform non-sworn entry level parking enforcement work, enforcing vehicle registration laws and parking regulation violations.
  • Tow and impound vehicles in violation of these parking regulations. Write, issue, and record summonses related to parking violations.
  • Monitor parking meters and parking regulation signage, reporting any inoperative meters or sign damage observed.
  • Testify in court. Provide information to the public concerning parking regulations, building locations, directions, and other requested information.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Position Requirements

Must be enrolled in or have completed a Peace Officers Standards and Training Board approved law enforcement or criminal justice program by date of appointment. This enrollment must be maintained throughout employment until the date of graduation from the program.

The Parking Enforcement Officer position is a transition position into Police Officer for the City of Saint Paul. A Parking Enforcement Officer must qualify and be appointed as a Police Officer within the anniversary date of four years of service in this class. If at any point it is determined by the department that a Parking Enforcement Officer does not meet the qualifications or physical requirements for Police Officer, the Parking Enforcement Officer may be separated at any time. If no examination is held for Police Officer during those four years, appointment as a Parking Enforcement Officer may be extended until such examination is held and completed.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.

Must have no felony convictions; including pardons and/or expungements, no criminal convictions of gross misdemeanor or equivalent level, no physical assault, domestic assault, or eluding the police convictions.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. GENERAL INFORMATION:

Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists typically are created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.

Condition of Employment: This position will require a medical examination, driver's license check, and a thorough Saint Paul Police Department background check to include criminal history, employment history, and proof of education as a condition of employment.
