Job Overview

Work in the Georgetown Laboratory for Relational Cognition ( focuses on relational thinking and reasoning, i.e., how we understand the connections between the ideas and events we encounter and how we come up with new, creative connections. Current directions in the lab include learning of relational concepts and reasoning strategies (including in real-world STEM classrooms), enhancing creative cognition and relational reasoning through training and electrical neuromodulation, overcoming anxiety about being creative, and identifying neurocognitive bases of relational concepts and schemas about supernatural entities. Our work engages and, where appropriate, seeks to integrate behavioral, brain-imaging, and genetic data.

Directed by Adam Green, the Lab anticipates hiring a Research Coordinator to focus on an NSF-funded study of concept development and reasoning in real-world high school education, as well as to contribute to lab-based studies on cognitive and neural mechanisms of creativity. Responsibilities include outreach to students and families as well as teachers and school administrators.

Depending on level of interest, the Research Coordinator has substantial opportunity to engage with all aspects of the project, including collection and analysis of behavioral and brain-imaging data.

This project seeks to contribute to bridging the gap between the real-world classroom and the cognitive neuroscience laboratory.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to the PI, the Research Coordinator/Research Assistant collaborates in various capacities with others to advance the work of the lab, including leading/ directing project initiatives and meetings, training others to conduct behavioral and MRI sessions with participants, conducting these sessions themselves, designing project/ experiment materials, and conducting administrative work - e.g., student volunteers; and interacts with subject participants, the PI, graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory, staff and faculty in the Psychology department, Main Campus Research Services Center, Center for Functional Imagine, laboratory's collaborators at other institutes- in person, by email, and telephone.

Requirements and Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in related field

+ Customer-oriented experience

+ Interpersonal skills as well

+ High level of organizational skill

Preferred requirements and qualifications

+ 2 to 3 years of work experience in a Lab setting, including laboratory research experience or combination of education and experience

+ Computing and data analysis skills
