SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

The Monitor will provide monitoring and security for the housing facility and residents, during the day or overnight based on schedule.

The position is at Kuehner House on Good Hope Road in SE Washington, DC. Kuehner House is an affordable housing program designed specifically for the elderly including emergency housing for abused and neglected elderly and a community day center.

Covid-19 Considerations: In alignment with DC Health, COVID-19 vaccinations, and boosters are mandated for personnel working in SOME's healthcare-designated programs, which currently include Medical, Dental, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Exodus House, Jordan House, Kirwan House, Kuehner House, Leland Place, and Mary Claire House. Requests for a medical or religious exemption will be considered for reasonable accommodation.

Schedule: One weekend: Friday 4:00 pm-7:00 am & Sunday 4:00 pm-8:00 am; the next weekend: Saturday & Sunday 7:00 am-4:00 pm (24 hours per week)

Required:1-3 years of experience in social services and experience providing services to seniors.

Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; DC Food Handlers Certification

Expected Contributions:

  • Oversee house operations and respond to client issues at night or during the day based on schedule
  • Conduct regular house walk-throughs and submit shift logs at the end of each shift
  • Perform drug tests, as needed
  • Respond to emergency situations and contact management as needed, develop serious incident report when needed
  • Monitor and document client medications
  • Perform cleaning duties
  • Assist in meal preparation
  • Enforce the policies of the program

Reports to: Program Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to move around all levels/floors of the building.
