The Prince George's County Government Board of Elections is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Warehouse Technician position, grade G13, within its Board of Elections Warehouse.

About the Position:
These temporary technician and drop box personnel positions in the Board of Elections Warehouse are being filled in preparation for the Presidential Election. The incumbent must have excellent computer skills, excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment which can be stressful at times. The incumbent must be a team player and willing to assist with training. This position requires the ability to pay attention to detail, be able to read and understand written directions, have good interpersonal skills and be able to get along well with others.

This position requires having access to a car; the incumbent must a valid Maryland Driver's License to travel to different polling places during the election cycle in order to meet election-related deadlines.

Mandatory overtime may be imposed that will include weekends, holidays, and evening hours in some cases. The available hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Examples of Work

What You'll Do:

  • Prepares voting units and electronic pollbooks for all elections.
  • Ensures that voting units and electronic pollbooks are properly charged and stored.
  • Inventory and store confidential election related materials.
  • Delivers and pick-up necessary supplies from Board of Elections headquarters.
  • Packs and disseminates election day supplies.
  • Conducts logic and accuracy testing of all voting equipment.
  • Assists with training coordination of Election Day polling place activities.
  • Assists with Election Judges supply and pick-up.
  • Assists with training of election day workers.
  • Assists judges in troubleshooting problems and provides instructions on the electronic pollbook and voting units.
  • Experienced using computers with script copy.
  • Assists with installing State required elections software, patches on election equipment and during Post maintenance.
  • Pickup and transfer mail in ballots from various droboxes; and perform tasks and duties as assigned within responsibility level of this class of work.
Qualifications

What You'll Need:
  • Must have experience at the Data Entry Operator II level equal to the length of the probationary period; or, high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with training in basic computer systems.
  • Two (2) years experience in data entry/processing.
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience which provides the necessary skills required of the position will also be accepted.
  • Must be a registered voter in the state of Maryland and must submit to and pass a criminal background check.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon selection, the candidate must:
  • Have reliable transportation as travel to polling places and drop boxes is required.
  • Be able to lift at least 60 lbs.
  • must be a registered voter in the state of Maryland and must submit to and pass a criminal background check
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Participate as an "Essential" employee in the department's snow and ice control program and other emergency or special activities as assigned.
DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.

General Plan Information:

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.

The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).

New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.

After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
