**OVERVIEW:**

Harbor House Family Emergency Shelter is a family emergency shelter located in the South of Market District of San Francisco. Harbor House provides case Management, youth engagement services, meals, and resources to homeless families at no cost. Intake to the Shelter is done by referral at intake hubs within the City and County of San Francisco.

The Janitor position works under the supervision of the Shelter Director to assist in cleanliness for the Harbor House Family Emergency Shelter.

**DUTIES****:**

* Clean designated building areas to maintain excellent appearance, sanitation standards, and cleanliness expectations (to include dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning vents, restrooms, etc.)

* Lobby and front entrance(s).

* Windows, doors, and various surfaces.

* Laundry room, community spaces, and community restrooms to maintain a sanitary environment.

* Stairwells, elevators, hallways, and high-volume traffic areas on a regularly scheduled basis.

* Residence units, stovetops, refrigerators, restrooms, floors, windows, etc.

* Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities as needed.

* Follow all health, safety regulations, and chemical storage and hygiene best practices.

* Follow up on maintenance repairs initiated by Residence Operations Manager, Program Director, and/or Executive Director(s).

* Empty trash receptacles and recycling bins and prepare for removal by Operations Attendants(s).

* Ensure unused areas of the building are locked for safety and security.

**QUALIFICATIONS****:**

* High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.

* Ability to read and understand written and oral communications in English.

* Experience in building maintenance, janitorial, and/or repair work.

* Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and appliances.

* Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and hazardous components.

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

* Tuberculosis clearance verification provided within seven days of employment

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS****:**

* Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.

* Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

* Ability to operate telephone

* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
