The VP Engineering s job is to make everyone in the engineering organization successful, to unblock issues, and chart a course to resolution of any technical issues getting in the way of success.As the Vice President of Engineering, you will report directly to the technical founder and CEO and be the driving force of technological execution for our engineering and product development teams. The VPE will be the leader of technical execution and delivery for all of the components within the tech stack. You will lead organizational change across people, process and technology across the team and drive delivery and technical decision making for our global technology teams. You will serve as a cross-functional leader who focuses on collaboration with key stakeholders to execute on the technology vision, strategy, roadmap and delivery.Emotional intelligence is an important factor for this position, as the ideal leader will need to blend together a combination of empathy and firmness to lead the execution necessary for the organization. You will be a coach, mentor, diplomat and pace-setter for the changes necessary in the organization.Finally, this leader should be willing to be hands on and not afraid to "get their hands dirty". Scope AS has an extensive technology stack across a wide variety of technologies, and a keen understanding of software development practices, architecture, and maintaining globally highly-available systems will be an asset.Roles and ResponsibilitiesLead through example while providing high-level guidance, support, motivation, and morale to promote an innovative and challenging work environment while building high performing, cohesive, and sustainable teams that can execute both independently and collaboratively to deliver results.Hire and manage a global team of talented engineers, providing guidance and direction to achieve the technical vision and strategy.Partner with cross-departmental stakeholders to identify product goals and milestones and develop the technical roadmap and strategies for success.Balance delivery of urgent customer facing features with engineering excellence, as well as managing long-term technical debt/investments.Own on-time release delivery, capacity and forecastingOwn the tactical plan for technical debt retirement and incorporation of new technologiesDrive technical architecture decisions and lead efforts to ensure successful execution of strategies while ensuring architecture integrity and standards.Partner with Product Management, Design and Operations teams to successfully deliver products and features.Develop and maintain technology processes and procedures that uphold the engineering culture and product strategy.Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that impact the team s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals.SkillsBachelor s degree in a Computer Science or other technical field of study15+ years of relevant experience in software engineering.10+ years as an engineering manager or leaderProven ability to lead an organization through significant changeHighly strategic and effective in coaching and developing teamsExperience delivering new products as well as refactoring and upgrading legacy products in placeExpert in fundamentals of engineering and related tech stack; creating systematic, repeatable and sustainable tech; ensuring code and test quality and continuous integration; agile methodologiesStrong design, and implementation skills with a strong understanding of one or more industry standard programming languages.Strong project management skills with understanding of all phases of project management, risk mitigation, and milestones.Strong technology leader focused on delivering products with excellent usability and customer satisfaction, and reliable and secure performance.Strong track record of highly influential technical and leadership achievements.Demonstrates a highly analytical approach which thrives in a data-driven environment.Proven ability to work and problem solve independently/collaboratively, to organize workloads and priorities, high-quality execution, technical innovation/adaption, and initiatives.Preferred SkillsBreadth and depth of technical expertise in a variety of areas, including mobile, web services, cloud services, IoT, ERP, real-time audio and video codecs and protocols, networking protocols, and enterprise deploymentsExperience with as many of the following technologies as possible is desirable: C#, C++, Unity, NodeJS, Ruby on Rails, iOS Development, Android Development, AWS, AzureExperience with leading organizations with Test-Driven DevelopmentExperience with CI/CD systemsWe're growing our team quickly, so if you like solving hard problems, want to have real influence at work and have the skills listed above, we'd love to hear from you!About Scope AR
