Performs routine maintenance and repair services in more than one craft such as electrical, carpentry, welding, plumbing, sheet metal, painting, and millwrighting. This position is more common in smaller facilities where the incumbent has adequate experience to do most of the work specific to that setting, but is supported by specialists or outside contractors as needed. Has a sound understanding of the maintenance history of the building, equipment, and other facilities to be maintained.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Perform correct procedures for 'lock out', 'closed system entry', 'confined space entry', and 'hot work' as specified in plant procedures. In addition, the craftsman is required to take all necessary precautions to ensure his own safety and the safety of others.
* Makes a visual and auditory inspection of plant mechanical operating equipment and corrects problems found during daily inspections.
* Performs repairs or modifications specified on work orders as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Shift Supervisor.
* Install or modify new equipment as assigned.
* Keep appropriate personnel notified of changes in plant equipment or modifications to the original design.
* Fabricate or repair spare parts as needed.
* Participate in overtime activities as required including down day activities, vacation or illness coverage, or to assist with additional workloads as required.
* Troubleshoot equipment and correct any failed components as well as any components that may have contributed to the original failure.
REQUIREMENTS
* 5+ years of industrial maintenance mechanic experience highly preferred, ideally with a chemical manufacturer.
* HS diploma or equivalent required.
* Must be able to work flexible hours. Includes both "Day Shift" and "Night Shift" work as needed.
* Must meet minimum scores on mechanical skills assessment.
* Adequate physical strength to perform the essential job tasks with prolonged physical activity. (for example, ability to lift 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance).
* Ability to react to potential or immediate hazardous conditions and to take appropriate action.
* Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as respiratory protection, safety harness, and full protection suit as well as common protective or safety equipment.
* Quality of work - attention to detail critical for success in this role.
* Self Motivated, reliable, willing to learn new things and a good communicator.
