DESCRIPTION

Decypher is seeking a Clinical Medical Physicist to support Radiation Oncology Services at Ft. Belvoir

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Scheduled Specialty Procedures Responsible for:

a. Brachytherapy, LDR and HDR

b. 3-D Treatment Planning

c. Equipment Acceptance Testing

d. Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy Planning

e. Superficial/Ortho-voltage X-ray Therapy

f. Emergency Specialty Procedures and Cases

g. Whole Brain Cord Compression Superior Vena Cava Syndrome

h. Administrative Services Responsible for:

i. Continuing Medical Education

j. Quality Assurance Functions

k. Consultation concerning academic matters to the Commander.

l. Coordination with other departments and the hospital staff to provide complete care to patients.

2. Perform procedures to include, but not limited to, the following:

a. Operations Responsible for:

Operate or direct CONTRACT HCPs on operations of radiation therapy equipment including:

1. Treatment Units:

a. Varian Trilogy, Varian Truebeam, with Exactrac. Tomotherapy HiART, and Respiratory Gating hardware.

b. Brachytherapy source calibration and storage facility.

c. GammaMed HDR system.

2. Information Systems: Varian's ARIA record/verify and patient management system.

3. Treatment Simulation Systems: PET/ CT Sim Phillips Gemini large bore.

4. Treatment Planning Dosimetry Systems:

d. Varians Eclipse

e. BrainLab iPlan

f. Brachytherapy planning system, VariSeed

g. Gamma Med HDR

5. Physics/QA Equipment:

a. IBA OmniPro water tank, Sun Nuclear ArcCheck

b. Assorted ion chambers, electrometers, phantoms, profilers, diodes, etc.

c. The understanding of this equipment should be sufficient to train others, including residents in training, in their use so as to become proficient with and adhere to the Radiation Oncology Division standard operating procedures (SOP) for the correct conduct of Radiation Therapy procedures.

d. Should also be qualified to assist with CPT coding of procedures performed by Physics/dosimetry

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Degree/Education: Possess a Master's Degree in Medical Physics, Physics or other related physical science or Engineering disciplines and has at least two (2) years experience working in radiation therapy physics documented by a physicist certified by the American Board of Medical Physics or American Board of Radiology.

Possess subspecialty certification as a Medical Physicist by one or more of the following: The American Board of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology Physics; The American Board of Radiology in either Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics; The Canadian College of Physics in Medicine.

3. Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support

4. Experience: Possess proficient experience as a Medical Physicist of at least 24 months within the preceding 40 months.

5. Possess at least 24 months experience in treating with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) including familiarity with various modulation techniques and systems, patient immobilization and data acquisition, treatment planning, treatment plan and machine QA procedures, dosimetry, and film QA validation techniques for IMRT treatment plans.

6. Possess supervisory clinical experience as a Medical Physicist for at least 24 continuous months within the preceding 36 months. Provide three letters of recommendation in any combination from a practicing Radiation Oncologist, a practicing Radiation Physicist or practicing Radiation Therapy supervisor attesting to the health care worker clinical skills. Reference letters shall attest to the quality and quantity of the individual's experience as a clinical medical physicist and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference. Letters of reference must have been written within the preceding five (5) years.

7. Have a thorough understanding of clinic software, current Varian Aria, Varian Eclipse, Phillips PET CT SIM, Tomotherapy HiART planning, LDR prostate brachytherapy - VariSeed, Varian GammaMed HDR, RPM respiratory gating, Brainlab iPlan and Exactrac, RadCalc, Lap Laser system, Sun Nuclear ArcChek, IBA Omnipro water tank. Understanding should be sufficient to train others, including residents in training, in their use. Provide three letters of recommendation from practicing physicians or supervisors attesting to the health care worker clinical skills. Reference letters shall attest to the quality and quantity of individual's experience as a medical physicist and must include name, title, and phone number, date of reference, address, and signature of the individual.

8. Be a U.S citizen.

9. Periodically there are conferences and seminars in different states/cities outside of the 40 miles radius that they might have to attend to discuss updates practices/procedures.
