Position Summary

The Commercial Banker is responsible for promoting the bank's commercial lending, deposit gathering and non-interest income initiatives for their assigned territory. Manages an individual portfolio consisting of loans and deposits anywhere within the assigned market. Acquires new relationships by building connections within the community served, initiating and renewing commercial loans, and acquires deposits to establish a whole well-rounded relationship with the Bank. Participates and assists management with any sales campaign. Ensures loans are in compliance with sound lending practices and regulations.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Assists with the development of commercial loan business, deposits and non-interest income.
  • Participates in civic and professional activities to enhance the bank's visibility in the community.
  • Promotes favorable image of the Bank in all business activities within the community.
  • Develops new deposit relationships with growth of overall bank deposits as the goal.
  • Conducts client meetings collecting and analyzes financial data to determine the general credit worthiness and merits of the specific loan request.
  • Proactively cross-sells and/or refer Bank's products and services.
  • Is responsible for staying aware of and involved with the safety and soundness of the lending division.
  • Builds loan and deposit portfolio through proactive customer contact, sales and service activities.
  • Conducts business development calls to acquire new loans and deposit accounts for the Bank.
  • Responsible for cross selling deposit relationships to loan customers.
  • Supports marketing strategies as they are related to introducing new products and services to prospective customers.
  • Exhibits a full commitment to fair lending.
  • Creates credit packages and credit documentation for loan approval.
  • Performs tasks that enable the Bank to comply with Federal and State guidelines and regulations. Follows required Bank policies and procedures as directed.
  • Utilizes outside training opportunities to expand knowledge and experience of the role.
  • Remains knowledgeable of and adheres to corporate policies and procedures and Federal and State regulations and laws. Assures the Bank's compliance with regulatory agencies. Also adheres to Federal and State regulations and laws including the Bank Secrecy Act. An in-depth knowledge of fair lending legislation and compliance is required.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Requirements

General Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years' experience in a Financial Institution with a focus on commercial and business banking as well as relationship management
  • Requires an undergraduate degree in a business-related field.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of banking is strongly desired.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of credit guidelines, procedures, banking regulations and compliance requirements related to commercial lending.
  • A solid understanding of credit underwriting, accounting and financial analysis is preferred.
  • Credit analysis and loan documentation experience is essential.
  • Knowledge of the Bank's products and services is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of the markets within the Bank's footprint and overall banking needs is required.
  • Proven ability to recognize and focus on critical sales and service delivery issues and to balance and respond to competing roles and organizational needs.
  • Experience in credit policy, analysis and regulatory practice would be helpful
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are required to develop and grow relationships with current and prospective customers and employees.
  • Should have the focus and desire to provide excellent customer service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs is required.
  • Proficiency with loan-related software is preferred.

Physical Demands/Work Environment Requirements:

Vision, hearing, speech, movements requiring the use of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, and bend. A valid driver's license is required. Must have the ability to work the days and hours required to fulfill the essential functions of the position.

Mental Demands:

Learning, thinking, concentration, the ability to interact with others, the ability to exercise self-control, and the ability to work under stressful conditions, particularly in customer and employee relations' situations are necessary. Must have the ability to make decisions and exercise discretion when necessary.
