Lynker is seeking to hire an Administrative Assistant to support Ho a la Kealakekua Nui. The purpose of this position is to assist the Ho a la Kealakekua Nui Board of Directors to fulfill Board duties, coordinate staff, financial and accounting, fundraise and grant management, maintain Board calendars, handle mail and other correspondence, composing letters, social/digital media management, and maintaining documents. Work will be primarily conducted remotely with occasional in-person workdays, events, and meetings at Kealakekua Bay and surrounding areas in South Kona.




Ho a la Kealakekua Nui is a community and descendant-led nonprofit organization whose goal is to preserve and maintain the natural, cultural, and spiritual significance within the Kealakekua Bay State Park area. Our group works in partnership with our community and government agencies to ensure that Kealakekua Bay Historical State Park and the Village of Na po opo o exist in harmony with villagers, kama a ina, guests, and the natural world. Ho a la Kealakekua Nui seeks to rise up to the challenge of protecting and preserving Kealakekua Bay for our generation and those to come.




Originating as a small dedicated group that cared for the sacred Hikiau Heiau and its surrounding area through a curatorship agreement with State Parks, it has progressed to becoming a nonprofit to face growing needs and challenges. After undergoing a Community Action Plan (CAP) in 2022, Ho a la Kealakekua Nui decided to build the capacity needed to achieve the vision of the CAP.




Mission Statement: Engage in collaborative stewardship of Kealakekua Bay's natural and cultural landscape for the benefit of the whole community, including guests and generations to come, through active restoration, outreach and education.




Vision Statement: Kealakekua Bay is a harmonious and spiritual place with a thriving ecosystem interwoven with traditional knowledge and practices and cared for by the collaborative efforts of the community and partners to ensure balance within this revered wahi pana (storied place).




The Administrative Assistant duties include:





  • Board Duties:





    • Minutes and Agendas





      • Assemble and distribute the agenda materials (board meeting packets).




      • Serve as recording secretary and provide minutes that accurately reflect all actions the board takes.




      • Some knowledge of parliamentary procedure is helpful.






    • Compose draft letters and other correspondence for approval prior to sending.




    • Maintaining the Board's calendar





      • Scheduled and special meetings of all Board of Directors meetings and their sub-committees and task forces.




      • All Ho a la Kealakekua Nui events.








  • Operations:





    • Maintain and show the progress of a work plan that coincides with the Executive Director or President of HKN's strategic priorities.






  • Financial and Accounting:





    • Assist the Board with creating budgets.




    • Produce P&L, Accounts Received/Payables, and Balance Sheets on a monthly basis.




    • Balance and reconcile check register and bank account(s).




    • Do annual filings with DCCA and IRS




    • Ability to work with Board approved accounting service(s) in providing necessary obligatory financial documents.






  • Fundraising and Grant Management:





    • Assist with developing and implementing fundraising efforts to fulfill the organization's priorities.




    • Assist in developing a fundraising plan.




    • Actively pursue grant solicitations that are aligned with the organization's current priorities.




    • Assist grant management and reporting.






  • Oversee Digital & Social Media Outreach.




  • Additional administrative assistant tasks may be requested based on strategic priority needs, as defined by the Board President of HKN, through consultation with Lynker and Administrative Assistant.





Minimum required qualifications include:





  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.




  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.




  • Strong communication, writing, and math skills.




  • Self-directed and able to manage multiple tasks with respect to deadlines.




  • Must provide own transportation to in-person activities.




  • Work from home with access to wifi.





Additional preferred qualifications include:





  • Knowledge of Kealakekua Bay and the South Kona district.




  • Experience with project management (grant and financial management).




  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and/or in the ocean and under physically demanding circumstances. Able to hike, swim, kayak at Kealakekua Bay to participate in in-person stewardship activities. May need to lift up to 50lbs during in-person stewardship activities.
