Division: Parks Department Reports to: Park Manager

Status: Full Time Salary: $47,740.50

JOB SUMMARY: Supervises employee crew and performs a variety of semi-skilled diversified tasks in the general maintenance of parks and recreational facilities such as: buildings, grounds, and structures within all the Parks Department.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Park Maintenance I and II workers, seasonal groundskeepers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Supervises employees along with hands on work in general maintenance of all parks and pavilions.

? Responsible for the general maintenance of all park facilities including but not limited to: playgrounds, park furniture, fencing, buildings, and fixtures.

? Operates all equipment in the department. Understands and can operate equipment for pesticide and fertilizer

application.

? Assists in employee performance evaluations, documentation, accident reporting and investigations; assists Parks Manager with other operational functions and personnel needs.

? Prepares, logs, and tracks usage, maintenance, and service schedules of Parks equipment and supplies. Prepares and tracks inventory of Parks equipment and supplies.

? Enforces safety procedures and regulations. Completes safety training and maintains records of such trainings. Recognizes safety issues/hazards and takes steps to correct them. Reports unsafe conditions to Parks Manager outside of their scope of work.

? Determines most efficient manner of accomplishing assigned work; assigns and supervises the completion of work.

? Ensures Park Department vehicles are used properly and maintained and that safety rules are implemented and followed.

OTHER DUTIES:

? Responds to emergency calls and citizen complaints or inquiries.

? Works overtime as needed.

? Makes operating decisions on-site in the absence of the Parks Manager.

? Performs other related duties as required.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience:

? High school diploma;

? At least two (2) years ground crew/parks maintenance and progressively responsible field supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

? Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of park and grounds maintenance, or a related field.

? Considerable knowledge of the basic principles and practices of equipment and supplies used to perform minor repairs and various semi-skilled tasks.

? Considerable knowledge of safety hazards and applicable safety precautions.

? Considerable skill in the use of common hand tools and mechanical equipment.

? Ability to understand, follow and implement oral and written instructions.

? Ability to supervise others.

? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

? Valid Indiana State driver's license.

? Preferred license for Pesticide Applicator or ability to acquire one.

The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.

? The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move more.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED:

Trucks, tractors, mowers, electric and gas powered tools, and other associated equipment used in the Parks and Recreation structures, facilities, and projects.
