Director of Solution Coalitions

Job Summary:
The Director of Solution Coalitions will lead the Institute for Humane Studies' strategy for its AI and online speech portfolios, serving as a key consultant to the leadership team, and be responsible for forging relationships with external stakeholders to increase the impact of classical liberal thought leadership among academics, policy professionals, and practitioners. The Director's knowledge of the technology sector landscape, along with thorough market research, will inform strategy formulation and the leveraging of partnerships. Reporting to the Managing Director of Programs and Partnerships, they will serve as a key leader within the organization and the lead for outreach and relationship cultivation with external partners.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Own strategy for the AI and Online Speech portfolios.
    • Set vision and goals for IHS's strategy to advance classical liberal principles in research and conversations on AI and online speech.
    • Drive cross-functional collaboration to advance the organization's work in the AI and online speech portfolios.
  • Design and execute short- and long-term engagement and outreach plans that drive significant and measurable success.
    • Identify high-impact individuals, organizations, and new business opportunities for IHS that span beyond the traditional academic landscape through effective market research, analysis, and networking.
    • Utilize current understanding and knowledge of external groups and organizations to identify current and projected information gaps, and produce actionable solutions to maximize impact in coalition initiatives.
  • Authentically project, reflect, and represent the mission, vision, and values of IHS through attendance and active participation at key conferences and events.
    • 15-20% travel required for conference and event attendance.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in a value-focused relationship management environment.
    • Experience within, or related to, the technology industry highly preferred.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of AI and technology sector functions, matched by the ability to speak to areas including but not limited to: best practices, current events, capabilities, and projected impact on societal functions.
  • Strong creative mindset with proven abilities to drive strategy and solve problems with minimal supervision.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, a passion for teamwork, and a strong collaborative mindset to work with internal cross-functional and external groups.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing with stakeholders with varied levels of professional and academic experience.
  • Capable of soliciting information from partners to qualify and determine collaborative opportunities.
  • A deep understanding, connection to, and appreciation for classical liberal ideas.
