JOB LOCATIONS: Wilson, Raleigh and Jacksonville, NC areas.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic equipment and diesel engines on trucks, cranes, bulldozers, graders and other heavy and light duty vehicles used in construction. Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of principles for providing needs assessment and meeting quality standards for services. Requires knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, computer hardware and software used on construction machinery and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Use hand tools such as screw drivers, pliers and wrenches as well as pressure gauges, precision instruments and power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks and hoists to repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  2. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  3. Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  4. Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  5. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  6. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment and machinery and changing tires.
  7. Attach test instruments to equipment, and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  8. Inspect and test defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, pressure gauges, engine diagnostic equipment and calibration devices.
  9. Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment and machinery such as pumps and compressors.
  10. Test equipment after repair to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.

  12. Perform additional duties as required or directed by their immediate supervisor or other manager.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old


Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years' work experience


Other:
  • Valid Driver's License Required
  • Must have own tools


Heavy Physical Demands:

Heavy physical effort required including pulling and lifting or moving heavy weight material with frequent lifting or moving materials or equipment (over 80 pounds). Any mechanic involved in tire changing activities may be required to lift heavier weights (over 140 pounds). If a position specific Physical Demands sheet is attached, it will describe in more detail the physical demands that are required.

Physical Activity:

Position requires the ability to continuously work around any or all of the following: noise, dust, heat, cold, oil and heavy equipment. Personal protective equipment is normally required of the position. Position requires ability to exchange ideas quickly and clearly and the ability to receive and evaluate detailed information and instructions.
