Job Description

To perform a variety of tasks in street, drainage and right-of-way maintenance.

Essential Duties

CORE COMPETENCIES:

Sets forms and string lines.

Pours and finishes concrete.

Clears debris from drainage ditches, curbs and gutters.

Inspects streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, alleys and approach ways for needed repairs.

Spreads and unloads asphalt to repair minor damage.

Conducts safety and maintenance checks on equipment and machinery.

Operates a variety of street repair equipment.

Sets flagging and road barricades; directs traffic in congested areas.

Performs minor repairs on small equipment.

Loads and unloads trucks of construction materials.

Applies and / or assists with the application of pavement marking.

Applies and / or assists with the application / installation of Traffic Control devices.

Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and comply with City of Killeen driving policy.

Performs all On-Call assignments as outlined in the On-Call schedule and Departmental policy,

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

* Six (6) months of experience, preferred.

* Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

* Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment

* Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion

* Ability to establish working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public

* Working knowledge of concrete form setting and concrete finishing

* Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance

Special Requirements:

* Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license by date of hire, and comply with the City of Killeen driving policy

* Must have or acquire within thirty (30) days from date of hire all National Institute Management System (NIMS) certifications as required by City and position

Supplemental Information

Tools and Equipment Used

Various equipment used in street repair (concrete saw, pick and shovel, jackhammer, chain saw, bull float, hand derby, asphalt rake, etc) and safety equipment as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
