For over 127 years, feed and food customers have been counting on Scoular s experts to create safe and reliable supply chain solutions for end-users and suppliers of grain, feed ingredients, and food ingredients around the globe.The Overland Park, KS based Merchandiser Assistant II (MA II) has primary responsibilities for effectively performing all accounting tasks relating to the business unit(s) assigned in an efficient manner following all company and market group policies and procedures. This position will perform bookkeeping functions, logistical support and export documentation requirements surrounding our cross-country rail grain and freight trading business. This individual is a key person responsible for accurately carrying out the workflow over the life cycle of a trade, from initial transaction through all stages of execution. The role will serve our business both domestically and in Mexico, although Spanish speaking is not required.The role is responsible for maintaining positive customer relations with internal and external customers, as well as third parties (railroads, vendors, etc.). Export documentation will also be a component of this role. The MA II exhibits excellent teamwork with other business units and personnel. The MA II settles wheat shipments and works closely with merchandisers on documentation and contract application to ensure a crisp clean transaction.We operate in a dynamic geography that covers the U.S. and Mexico, with a large makeup of our transactions coming from company-owned facilities, along with 3rd party customers. Our group is the central hub for rail wheat transactions in Scoular trading shuttle and single car volume across a variety of origin-destination pairs that serve domestic and export customers. You will work closely with grain loading origins, transportation providers, flour mills, grading agencies and freight forwarding/broker agents for clearing export trains. Maintaining positive customer and vendor relations is significant to this role and is a direct representation of our team and company. Frequent verbal and electronic communication are required.As a vital member of the group, the individual must demonstrate the ability to keep an open line of communication with the team and across other business groups. The position s contributions and capabilities will have a direct impact on several cross functional teams, as our business unit interacts heavily with various facilities and groups internal to Scoular. This role requires a solid understanding and execution of company policies and procedures, excellent communication skills, ability to manage through ambiguity, independent problem solving, customer orientation, team collaboration and a high level of multi-tasking ability in a team environment. Being a self-starter is a must.Note: This position is directly accountable to the Trade Unit Manager for daily business functions and to the Controller in respect to approved control procedures. This role is required to report any perceived control policy or procedure concerns to the Controller.Job Responsibilities Assist merchandiser team with accounting responsibilities to ensure prompt payment of invoices. Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, freight analysis, freight register and other miscellaneous reports on a daily/weekly basis. Process checks daily to follow up on outstanding receivables and unapplied cash. Responsible for final settlements of Rail Jackets. Of which the process includes paying freight bills, and collaboration with traders on any details that directly affect accounting of a transaction. Maintains an organized filing system which includes invoices, contracts, reports and payment receipts. Responsible for printing proper bills of lading, collection letters and checks (as needed). Provide consistent and timely customer support. Gain an understanding of Scoular s system reports. A few examples but not limited to: Mix and Blend, Freight Variance, and Traders Position. Communicate business position and miscellaneous adjustment with merchandiser team. Reconciles business unit trading position daily. Collaborates with the merchant at month end in submitting the final P&L.
