Legal Assistant I


Job Details

Summary: Assist paralegals and attorneys in the preparation and filing of petitions and applications with USCIS, DOL, and DOS.

Essential Functions:

  • Collect necessary information and documentation from clients to prepare applications for assigned cases.
  • Prepare and assemble case files.
  • Print and photocopy documents, data enter, prepare legal forms.
  • Prepare/draft filings to relevant federal and state agencies.
  • Prepare/draft support statement, correspondence and memoranda for filing.
  • Enter case information into computerized databases and case management systems.
  • Track the status of filings and inform the client of any follow up that may be necessary.
  • Scan and save documents.
  • Update computer databases and utilize case preparation/management tools effectively and efficiently.
  • Prepare document requests and other communications.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Organize and file cases documents.

Non-Essential Functions:
  • Provide information and assistance to clients regarding legal procedures (NOT legal advice).
  • Retrieve and/or return files.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

Bachelor's degree or Associates degree with a Paralegal Certificate. Prior business immigration or legal office experience preferred. Ability to work effectively under strict time deadlines while handling significant case volumes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, outstanding organizational, problem solving and management skills, and the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment are essential. Experience at a law firm or professional services firm is preferred.

  • While performing duties, the employee will constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer;
  • The employee will occasionally need to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.;
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds;
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
