We are currently searching for a Landscape Architect/Planner to join our Planning, Landscape Architecture, & Urban Design group in Springfield, VA.

The successful applicant needs to be creative and have a diverse range of graphic skills that include freehand sketching and computer aided rendering, GIS, and CAD production skills. This person will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of design projects and support the business development efforts for the Mid-Atlantic Region, as well as the rest of the company. Our work includes small to large-scale projects such as streetscapes and urban plazas, parks and playgrounds, campus, and transportation related projects. What you ll be doing:

  • Prepare presentation packages using 3D modeling, graphic design, and desktop publishing software
  • Conduct research and prepare site reviews and analyses
  • Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Microstation
  • Participate in site analysis, project meetings and construction administration
  • Support marketing and business development efforts in development graphics and web-based communication
What you need to have:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Landscape Architecture
  • 4-8 years working within an Engineering, Landscape Architecture or Planning Firm desired, but other levels of candidate experience will be considered
  • A technical working knowledge of:
    1. Microstation (Preferred) or AutoCAD / Civil 3D
    2. Adobe Suite
    3. SketchUp
    4. ArcGIS
  • Knowledgeable of local jurisdiction and state permitting / approval processes
  • Knowledge of plant materials commonly used in the region
  • Interest in becoming licensed, and knowledge of ENVISION, LEED or SITES principles are also preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, detail oriented, and exhibits a willingness to learn
  • The successful candidate needs to demonstrate design ability, creative thinking, and technical proficiency
  • Must have the ability to immediately work in the United States on a full-time permanent basis
  • Self-motivated to meet individual goals and maintain accountability in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a team environment

The Planning, Landscape Architecture + Urban Design Group has become an instrumental part of Volkert s success. It is headed by Oliver Boehm, PLA, ASLA, ENV-SP, Legacy LEED-AP supporting all Volkert s business lines, as well as leading its own projects. See below a sample of our work:
  • Potomac ASLA Award, MW ACEC Award, and DCSITES Award Winner - Volkert developed the design for the Route 9 Traffic Calming and Pedestrian Project in Hillsboro Virginia and is currently completing the construction management for the $15 million project.   • Landscape Architects at Volkert were instrumental in developing the award-winning design for the Reconstruction of Oregon Avenue NW in Washington DC.

  • DCSITES Award Winner - As part of the multi-disciplinary team, Volkert s landscape architects developed a design that transforms the corridor into a truly pedestrian and bicycle friendly environment for the Rehabilitation of C Street NE in Washington DC.
  • Our studio led a planning effort for the City of Portsmouth Virginia which provides recommendations to transform the Crawford Corridor in the Downtown / Waterfront District. See a draft of the document for the Crawford Corridor Revitalization Study in:
