Information reported by the background check will not automatically disqualify you from employment.Position Summary/Purpose of Position:Reporting to the Assistant Director of Smith Programs & Events, the Coordinator supports the department in producing high-quality events, meetings, and conferences that engage internal and external communities and showcase the University of Maryland s Robert H. Smith School of Business intellectual capital. The coordinator works, in a fast-paced environment, to execute event goals and detailed plans ensuring outstanding results for multiple events and programs simultaneously.Superior organization, communication and technological skills are critical, as is a desire to learn, grow, and strive for improvement in every area of work being done. Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and a creative problem solver. The coordinator must possess strong customer service values with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. The ability to organize data and manage information is critical to success. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as program delivery requires.Bachelor s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Experience:

At least two years of related professional experience in event management, program management or communications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strict attention to detail.Ability to multitask, working on multiple events and priorities at different stages simultaneously.Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.Ability to perform well under strict deadlines.Strong oral and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to employers, staff, faculty, students, alumni and vendors.A thorough understanding of event planning and management including logistics, budgets and event marketing.Proven ability to work independently and autonomously to manage tasks, events, programs and other projects.Team-oriented with the ability to work as part of a larger team to manage events, programs and other projects.Understanding of graphic design concepts to facilitate superior collaboration with the marketing communications team.Creativity to provide engaging experiences.Ability to maintain composure and ability to keep calm when under pressure to meet deadlines and deal with client changes.Ability to execute and maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate client needs. Limited travel may be required for annual conferences and regional events.High level of enthusiasm for and commitment to the University of Maryland and the Smith School.Preferences:

Preferences:Knowledge of the Smith School program offerings.Experience providing administrative support.Experience in a higher education setting.Proficiency in event management and registration applications such as Cvent,

EMS

(Event Management Software), Social Tables, etc.Moderate project management background with experience utilizing Asana, Smartsheet, Monday or similar project management applications.Experience using Canva, Adobe Express or similar graphic design applications.Independent ability to research event industry language, trends, technology and systems and make recommendations.Additional Certifications:
