Noyes Children's Center\r9925 Blackwell Rd.\rRockville, MD 20850\rMain Purpose of JobA DJS Residential Group Life Manager II is the second one of two levels of managerial work providing supervision and guidance to youth residing in a facility operated by the Department of Juvenile Services. Employees in this classification oversee all services of a facility, except administration, such as direct care, intake and electronic reporting. Employees may function as the Assistant Director of the facility. Employees in this classification supervise DJS Residential Group Life Manager I positions. Employees in this classification receive managerial supervision from a DJS Assistant Superintendent Residential Facility, designated administrator or higher-level manager charged with directing the operation of the facility. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Employees may be subject to call-in on a twenty-four hour basis based on staffing needs. The DJS Residential Group Life Manager II oversees all services of the facility except administration and has supervisory responsibility for DJS Residential Group Manager I (the shift commander).\r\r\rMission statement: To transform young people s lives, create safer communities, and forge more equitable systems through community-based partnerships that hold youth accountable while building on their strengths and support systems.\r\r\rVision Statement: Providing pathways to success for youth and families through partnerships across Maryland\r\rMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from an accredited high school or\rpossession of a high school equivalency certificate. \rExperience:\rFive years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youth in a\rjuvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth. \rNotes:\r1.\rThe educational and certification requirements are set by the Maryland\rCorrectional Training Commission in accordance with the Correctional Services\rArticle, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland. \r2.\rCandidates may substitute possession an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal\rJustice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or\runiversity or sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university,\rincluding 15 hours in criminal justice or the social or behavioral sciences for\rone year of the required experience. \r3.\rCandidates may substitute possession a Bachelor s degree in Criminal Justice or\rthe social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university for\rtwo years of the required experience.\r\r\r4.\rCandidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a\rnon-commissioned officer in Correctional Officer classifications or\rCorrectional Officer specialty codes in the Miscellaneous Occupations field of\rwork on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\rDESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\r\rExperience\rsupervising employees who work in a secure juvenile setting is preferred.\rLICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS1. Candidates who have not already done so\rmust complete and successfully pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training\rCourse for DJS staff required for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission\rcertificate within 365 days of initial appointment or placement in this\rclassification according to Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.01.03. Employees\rare required to maintain certification while employed.\r2. Employees in this\rclassification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor\rvehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor\rvehicle operator s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\r\r3.Employees in this\rclassification that are employed at DJS Youth Centers may be required to\rcomplete a Board approved medication technician training program and possess a\rvalid Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) certification as a Medication\rTechnician.\rSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS1. In accordance with the Correctional\rServices Article, Section 8-209of theAnnotated Code of\rMaryland,the Maryland Correctional Training Commission shall establish\rthe minimum qualifications for probationary or permanent appointment of a\rDepartment of Juvenile Services employee in a mandated position. These\rrequirements are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations\r12.10.01.04, general regulations of the Maryland Correctional Training Commission,\rand include:\r\r\rU.S. Citizenship or\rResident Alien status\rMust be at least 21 years of age\rA thorough background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing\rAn oral interview, and\rPhysical and psychological examinations.\r\r2.
