**Housekeeper**

We take pride in supporting efforts that save wildlife from extinction by working to implement comprehensive conservation strategies and developing partnerships to increase knowledge and support in communities. The Houston Zoo focuses on saving wildlife through reducing threats that face species in the wild. This includes action to reduce plastic pollution and paper use, promote sustainable seafood and sustainable palm oil, recycle electronics, and address pollinator decline. We also protect the counterparts of zoo animals, like lions, sharks, cranes and toads in the wild through partnerships with other global wildlife-saving organizations. Every member of our staff makes this possible by ensuring extraordinary animal care and guaranteeing the zoos operations contribute to protecting animals in the wild. Our staff strengthens the zoo, making it possible to protect 20% of the lion population in Africa, save sea turtles through the elimination of plastic bottle sales, among other wildlife successes. This position is ideal for a driven and team oriented individual that can manage keeping up with tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment working with many departments to meet specific needs. Housekeepers work within a group and in pairs in a goal-driven environment to ensure that Zoo guests enjoy a clean and safe environment. This position works in a variety of locations including restrooms, offices, behind the scenes staff areas, outside exhibits, and more. Ability to work on weekends and after hours for events as needed, required. Preferred experience commercial, institutional, industrial, etc.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**
* Must have a positive attitude, good communication skills and be a team player
* Portray a helpful attitude when interacting with our Guests
* Project a professional image while in uniform and respond to radio calls in a timely manner
* Provides information and directions to guests concerning the Zoo mission, rules and events
* Proactive in reporting any questions, concerns, or supplies needed to the supervisor
* Must be able to complete repetitive tasks while maintaining quality
* Must be self-directed and able to work with limited supervision
* Sanitizes bathrooms, including sinks, mirrors, floors, walls and replenishes necessary supplies
* Makes sure staff offices are kept orderly through general area cleaning
* Dusting, empties trash and recycling
* Sweeps, mops and vacuums
* Removes trash and litter from public areas
* Maintains appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with chemicals and supplies that could be hazardous
* Inspects the integrity of supplies, and adheres to Zoo policies and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of collection animals, guests, and other staff members
* Completes a daily checklist of job duties performed
* Must be able to work Special Events and support Special Events staff
**Education and Experience**
* High School Diploma / GED
* One to Three Months relevant work experience
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
* Excellent oral and written communications skills
* Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
* Ability to partner across teams and with all levels of staff
