Veteran-to-Veteran Hospice Volunteers Needed

Job Details

We are seeking veteran volunteers that would be able to visit our patients in Fairfield, New Haven, and/or Hartford counties. Compassus volunteers make a positive difference in the lives of our patients.

As we serve a vast area of Connecticut, we match volunteers with patients close to their home. Many of our patients live in skilled nursing facilities, but we also serve those being cared for in their private homes.

Volunteers help our patients by providing them support through simple companionship, reading to them, playing music, watching TV, and most importantly listening to their life story.

We ask that our volunteers commit to working at least two hours a month. Volunteers may make their visits flexible to fit their schedule. The length of visit times will vary depending on the needs of the patients.

Veteran volunteers are important because they are able to form a camaraderie with veteran patients that can help eliminate the stoicism and secrecy that veteran patients often develop from having served in the military.

A few ways veteran volunteers can help- assist veterans in reminiscing/telling life stories, make friendly visits, take part in pinning ceremonies or distribute certificates for Veterans Day and other events, read to patients, and/or run errands when needed.
