About Miami Job Corps Center

The Miami Job Corps Center provides students with the opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), and hands-on training in the following areas: Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Administration Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Plumbing, Painting, Security and Protective Services, HVAC, Landscaping, Electrical, and Building Construction Technology.

As a Residential Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in creating a home away from home, fostering personal growth, and empowering our students to overcome challenges on their journey to success.

Responsibilities:

  • Student Support and Mentorship:

    • Provide individualized guidance, mentorship, and emotional support to students residing in the residential facilities.
    • Foster a trusting and supportive relationship to empower students in overcoming personal challenges.
  • Crisis Intervention and Emotional Wellness:

    • Respond promptly and empathetically to students facing crises, utilizing effective intervention strategies.
    • Create a safe space for open communication, promoting emotional well-being within the residential community.
  • Community Building:

    • Organize and facilitate community-building activities, group discussions, and workshops to strengthen the sense of community.
    • Encourage a culture of mutual respect, understanding, and inclusivity among residents.
  • Life Skills Development:

    • Collaborate with students to develop and implement life skills programs that prepare them for independent living.
    • Provide guidance on practical aspects of daily life, such as budgeting, time management, and self-care.
  • Enforcement of Policies and Safety:

    • Enforce residential policies and procedures to maintain a secure and conducive living environment.
    • Conduct regular safety checks and inspections, ensuring the well-being of all residents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree (including 15 semester hours of social service-related instruction) and one-year experience in counseling or related field.
  • A minimum of one-year Job Corps or related program experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver s License and meet company insurability requirements.

Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping and crouching. Demonstrates the ability to lift 40 pounds and/or the ability to assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance.
