Prisma International seeks qualified, professional Interpreters to join our team as Independent Contractors. As an Interpreter at Prisma, you will support Prisma's clients with over-the-phone (OPI) and video relay interpreting (VRI) assignments.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The ideal Candidate shall be able to offer the following:

  • Experience with consecutive or simultaneous OPI and VRI between a government representative and non-English speakers;
  • Polite forms of expression, enunciation and pronunciation, and excellent customer service;
  • Delivery of correct concepts and meanings between the two parties;
  • Correct grammar, clarity and tone between the two languages;
  • Experience with following the speaker's direction, professionally interjecting when clarification is needed, and managing the conversation flow;
  • Refraining from side-conversations with the Limited-English speaker, and not entering into a disagreement with the client or LEP speaker;
  • Compliance with industry ethics and standards;
  • Experience in the domains of healthcare, legal, medical, government, and/or courts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least one (1) year of OPI and/or VRI consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience;
  • Two (2) professional references that can vouch for your work as OPI and/or VRI consecutive or simultaneous interpreter;
  • Minimum age: Must be 18+ years or older;
  • Minimum Education: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Fluency in English and demonstrated native (or near-native) proficiency in the target language;
  • Able to provide at least one of the following accreditations:
    • Washington State Department of Social Health Services (DSHS) Language Testing and Certification (LTC);
    • American Translation Association (ATA);
    • Trained or accredited through a higher education institution.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must provide an active Washington State Patrol (WSP) OR a favorable Federal background check.

A WSP background check can be acquired by visiting , selecting the Online version (WATCH), and then following the indicated steps.

Submission of an active WSP or Federal background check must be submitted with the applicant's resume.


DESIRED SKILLS:

Experience working with Washington State agencies such as the WA Dept. of L&I, WA State Patrol, WA Dept. of Agriculture, WA Dept. of Commerce, etc.
