**Health & Safety Manager**

The basic purpose of this position is to:

Implement programs and practices to ensure: compliance with Federal and State codes and regulations and Company policies, injury and illness prevention, safety management, environmental management, plant security, and crisis management.

Serve as a technical expert on safety, environmental, and security.

Set goals and objectives that complement those of the plant and Company, and design and execute projects and activities to achieve them.

Ensure records and reports are prepared and distributed as required.

Work a schedule to support activities on all shifts.

Report directly to the Plant Manager, and indirectly to the U.S. Manager of Safety and Security.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities: **Essential duties and responsibilities** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

**Safety**

Ensure compliance with Federal and State safety codes and regulations. Act as the initial plant representative in the event of regulatory inspections. Ensure ergonomic, noise, and Process Safety Management programs meet both regulatory and Company requirements. Conduct safety audits and ensure proper corrective action is taken to correct deficiencies.

Sustain McCains "Key Elements" process for safety management, which includes behavior modification, supervisor training, and employee involvement. Coordinate external audits. Facilitate the Core Safety Team and act as a resource for area safety teams.

Utilize internal and external resources to build and sustain a comprehensive safety program. Stay abreast of developments in the area of safety that could impact the plant via membership in professional associations, workshops, etc.

Ensure prompt and thorough investigation of incidents and near misses, effective case management of work-related illnesses and injuries, compliance with workers compensation laws and regulations, accurate accounting of losses, optimization of return-to-work programs, and use of a standardized record and reporting system.

Plan and execute specific programs and activities to prevent employee injury and illness and increase employee well-being. Programs should target employee responsibility for safety and focus on both on-the-job and off-the-job activities that have an effect on employee health.

Lend technical assistance as requested to plant personnel.

Play an active role on Corporate safety management teams.

**Security**

Ensure compliance with governmental and Company security requirements.

Manage in-plant security systems.

Conduct regular security audits and insure proper corrective action is taken to correct deficiencies.

Provide technical assistance as necessary or requested.

Ensure the plant crisis management plan is up to date and that the management team is prepared to respond to emergencies. Develop and conduct annual crisis drills.

**Environmental**

Ensure compliance with Federal and State safety codes and regulations. Act as the initial plant representative in the event of regulatory inspections.

Conduct safety audits and ensure proper corrective action is taken to correct deficiencies.

Coordinate external audits.

Ensure prompt and thorough investigation of incidents and near misses, effective case management.

Plan and execute specific programs and activities for environmental compliance.

Lend technical assistance as requested to plant personnel.

Play an active role on Corporate environmental teams.

**Other**

Develop and oversee budgets, and deliver results at or below budget.

Attend required plant training programs per the training schedule. Ensure personnel is properly trained. Develop and deliver selected training programs as required.

Ensure adherence to food safety and environmental regulations and programs.

Work proactively to be a resource to Operations, Engineering / Maintenance, Quality, Human Resources, and other departments, and to support plant efforts to achieve cost reduction and other goals.
