Temporary student assistant position in Hattiesburg. This is an ideal job for an incoming graduate student.

Job Summary

This role is a student assistant position within the MSED program that will conduct research activities and supports the efforts of the Center. The role will assist in community outreach and engagement activities. The student assistant will work on significant sponsored research projects for clients such as the US Department of Defense, state government agencies, and other local, state, national, and international and private organizations. Projects may involve economic and fiscal impact studies, strategic plans, feasibility studies, highest & best use studies, and marketing studies. Some recent projects include: a study of the economic and fiscal impact of a solar farm on a Mississippi Delta community; a geospatial targeting analysis of secondary wood products manufacturing industrial sites; an assessment of the development feasibility of a coastal boardwalk and marina on the Gulf Coast; and a cybersecurity labor market analysis. To do these projects, the applicant will receive training in advanced data analytics and mapping tools.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

+ Assist with checking the mail and other support functions as needed

+ Organize and file paperwork as needed

+ Assist with events

+ Conduct research projects

+ Compile reports based off of research

+ Run errands on campus

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of individuals are required

+ Ability to effectively present information

+ Utilize personal computer, computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)

+ Ability to perform basic research request
