About Phoenix Job Corps Center

The Phoenix Job Corps Center provides students with the opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), and hands-on training in the following areas: Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Administration Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Plumbing, Painting, Security and Protective Services, HVAC, Landscaping, Electrical, and Building Construction Technology.

Each year we provide academic, vocational training, and placement services to approximately 9,000 young people from ages 16 to 24 primarily in a residential setting. At Phoenix Job Corps, the counselor's role is to guide enrolled students towards successfully completing their chosen program and securing employment in their field of study. They must document student absences to ensure daily accountability is maintained. Each counselor is responsible for managing a caseload of 30 to 60 students. It is their duty to identify and address any obstacles that may prevent students from completing the program and guide them towards the appropriate resources available on the center..

Responsibilities:

  • Individual Counseling:

    • Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with students to understand their unique needs, challenges, and goals.
    • Foster a safe and supportive environment for open and honest communication.
    • Offer compassionate guidance to help individuals navigate personal and professional obstacles.
  • Group Facilitation:

    • Lead group counseling sessions to create a sense of community and mutual support among students.
    • Develop and implement workshops that address common issues and enhance students personal and professional development.
  • Goal Setting and Planning:

    • Collaborate with students to set realistic and achievable short-term and long-term goals.
    • Assist in creating personalized action plans, guiding the steps needed to reach their objectives.
  • Resource Navigation:

    • Connect students with relevant resources within Job Crops and the broader community to address specific needs and challenges.
    • Stay informed about available support services, educational opportunities, and employment prospects.
  • Empowerment and Motivation:

    • Inspire confidence and self-esteem by highlighting strengths and achievements.
    • Provide positive reinforcement and motivation to help students overcome setbacks and persevere in their journey.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and participant progress.
    • Collaborate with the team to generate reports and assessments to track overall program effectiveness.
  • Professional Development:

    • Stay current on counseling techniques, mental health practices, and industry trends.
    • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance counseling skills.

Qualifications

li Bachelor's degree (including at least 15 semester hours in Social Services-related instruction).

li A minimum of one year experience in counseling or related field.

li Strong desire to effect change in young adults professional development.

li Must possess a valid in-state Driver s License and meet the Company insurability requirements.
