TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

1. Designs, builds, and/or repairs buildings, facilities.

2. Utilizes and maintains a variety of wood working tools and machinery in order to complete assigned carpentry tasks.

3. Builds and repairs tables, shelves, bleachers, wooden fixtures, equipment, and specialized structures.

4. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require): High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); 3-5 years of related experience; Journeyman equivalent or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require): Licensing Requirements: Valid Wisconsin Driver License

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry): Knowledge of: Carpentry practices and procedures; Basic construction principles and practices;

SKILLS (position requirements at entry): Skill in: Planning and laying out rough and finished carpentry; Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and/or other technical drawings; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Independent Judgment/Decision Making/Problem Solving: Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and some innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices. Refers unusual problems to supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, intense noise, extreme temperatures, and travel.

NOTE: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and local travel
