Description

The Bart Laboratory at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center has an immediate opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a full-time Laboratory Technician.

The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists to develop improved varieties of cassava and tomato through genome editing. For more information about our research program, please visit our webpage. This is a mid-level position, meaning that the successful applicant is expected to arrive with some relevant experience. However, project-specific training will be provided, and expansion of skills is expected and encouraged. Promotional opportunities are available with additional experience.

Review of applications will begin in early April and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing basic molecular biology techniques such as isolating plant DNA / RNA / protein, bacterial DNA / plasmids, running gels, performing polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and Real-Time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR (qRT-PCR), etc
  • Plant tissue culture transformation and line maintenance
  • Greenhouse-based plant growth
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated aptitude for organization and multitasking
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and interactive research environment
  • Demonstrated record keeping and communication skills

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree with 3-5 years of experience; B.A. or B.S. in Biology or related discipline with 1-3 years of experience; or relevant Master's degree.
