POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Saddlerock Vineyard and Safari is seeking an Animal Care Specialist. This person will assist the Animal Care Supervisor at our beautiful ranch in Brock, Texas. Animal Care Specialists work to improve and enrich our animal's lives. Well qualified applicants will be passionate about animal welfare, especially endangered species. They will also have a strong desire to share their knowledge with the public.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 years in Biology/Zoology or related field or equivalent education, experience, and training, preferable.
  • Minimum 1 Year previous experience in an exotic wildlife facility.
  • A team player that will interact positively with guests, staff, and volunteers.
  • Must be able lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Must work under challenging conditions and extreme weather.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter with a positive attitude and good work ethic.
  • Must be honest, trustworthy and organized and be passionate about conservation for Endangered and Threatened wildlife.
  • Must have valid drivers license and social security card or Work Visa.
  • Up to date vaccinations including for Tetanus and be TB Negative.
  • One [1] letter of reference/recommendation is a plus.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

All of the responsibilities listed below are considered essential functions of this position. Additionally, this position is expected to ensure that the core operating values and the strategic direction of the agency are adhered to.

  • Monitoring and documenting Daily Animal Health
  • Preparation of diets including processing of meat, fruits/veggies and daily administration of supplements.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of animal habitats and food areas.
  • Operant conditioning & environmental/behavioral enrichment.
  • Educational Tours & Keeper Talks.
  • Interaction and Handling of animals including hands-on.
  • Assist with veterinary care and baby raising as needed.
  • Modifying exhibits and participation with building of new exhibits.
  • Maintenance of grounds in and around exhibits.

ADA COMPLIANCE:

1. Physical activity: Climbing, Stooping, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, Hearing, Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

2. Physical requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

3. Visual acuity requirements (color, depth perception, and field vision): The worker is

required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work

assigned.

4. Conditions the worker will be subject to: The worker is subject to both environmental

conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
