St. James Parish is hiring a Meter Reader I for our Public Utilities Division under the OperationsDepartment. This position is responsible for physically reading and recording currentgas and water meter readingsfor thePublic Utility System.This position isclassified as essential during declared emergencies or naturaldisasters. This is a nonexempt position,forty hours per week. This position isSafety Sensitive and subject to random drug testing as per the St. JamesParish Government Employee Handbook. Individuals in this class are able to complete the majority of theirwork with a minimum amount of supervision.Essential duties and responsibilities include any combination of the following but not limited to:- Readsand records current usage data from gas/water meters- Usesequipment or visually checks for gas and water leaks- Mayassist with the installation of wet taps on water and gas lines- Classifies,codes, and posts various information and data into computer systems- Otherduties as assigned Other skills and abilities: - Knowledge of the operating procedures and maintenance of equipment operated.- Ability to clean and perform minor maintenance and repair of equipment operated.- Ability to perform physical labor as required of the position.- Operate various types of office equipment (e.g. copy machine, calculator, word processor, computer terminal, etc.)- Have excellent public relations skills.- General knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations in vehicle and equipment operation.To perform this job successfully, anindividual must be able to perform each essential job satisfactorily. Must successfully complete all trainingrequirements as per the Operations & Maintenance Plan and the EmergencyPlan for natural gas systems.Mustpossess a valid Louisiana Driver'sLicense and have an acceptable driving record.
