This position is responsible for all aspects of truck and railcar management, coordination and communication with the railroads and carriers. Primary leader in railroad relationships, rail car lease relationships with car vendors and managing the movement of inbound and outbound shipments of railcars. Acts as a key liaison to Customer Service for customer rail shipments, in addition to trouble shooting; problem solving, finance and management reporting of rail movements. Responsible for creating operational efficiencies, capturing cost savings and creating competitive advantages for freight. This includes coordination with operations for safety, efficiencies and supply chain management of inbound materials.

Main Accountabilities:

* Manages and ensures compliance with NA rail plan, while maximizing asset utilization without compromising supply chain performance.

* Makes key decisions and provides daily management of rail fleets, car assignments, tracking of shipments and coordination with the respective railroads.

* Define and manages the performance of inbound rail shipments and outbound customer rail shipments.

* Collaborates with Scheduling and Operations to minimize demurrage costs and create savings.

* Review, process & approve rail invoices and approve demurrage costs and assign costs to customer's assigned fleet cars.

* Work fluently in SAP while maintaining correct rail rates, buffer percentages and fuel surcharges in SAP.

* Maintain the rail costing model and verify freight rate costs against SAP on a quarterly basis.

* Work closely with Sales and Customer Service for Rail and truck shipments and resolve customer complaints and capitalize on improvement opportunities.

* Develop a relationship with all railroads that service rail lanes.

* Provide KPI reports to management, including OTS, demurrage and Freight clarification and variances.

* Lead the effort in analyzing freight and transportation costs/expenditures, improving systems and processes throughout all aspects of the transportation sector by utilizing critical software tools such as: SAP, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel models.

* Timely and effective communications skills both verbal and written.

* Supports negotiations on track/spur leases with carriers and manages operational carrier relationships and resolves service issues.

* Conducts fleet size analysis; add/return cars as required.

* Coordinates rail-car maintenance by reviewing and approving payments and monitoring maintenance activities and car returns (after repairs)

* Assists in development of negotiation strategy and supports negotiations with Rail and truck carriers and asset suppliers.

* Maintain responsibility for Food Safety and Quality by following company Quality Systems and implementing Food Safety guidelines in transportation and warehousing.

* May cross-train to back up other roles for PTO coverage, as needed.

Education/Experience:

* Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Business or a related discipline required.

* 5+ years' experience in logistics with exposure to rail traffic operations required.

* Possess knowledge of SAP and strong computer skills

* Flexibility to be on call nights and weekends, as needed.
