JOB SUMMARY:

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing accounting and related tasks across a variety of areas within the Accounting function.

REPORTS TO:

SUPERVISES: N/A

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Accounts Receivable
    • Record daily cash, check, farebox deposits and credit card receipts in Lawson accounting system and reconcile to source detail.
    • Complete all monthly billing and collection of accounts receivable for RTS Monroe and Regional Operations.
    • Record ticket vending machine sales and monthly operating assistance and mortgage recording tax revenue.
    • Follow up as needed with delinquent customers regarding past due balances and bounced checks.
    • Work with Senior Accountant to record payments received through Charter Service Portal.
  • Accounts Payable
    • Assist with the processing of accounts payable for RTS Monroe on a weekly basis and Regional Operations on an as needed basis.
  • General Accounting
    • Prepare monthly reporting of Regional and miscellaneous revenue.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Other duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Two-year degree in Accounting or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in accounting or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to perform a variety of routine duties involving the use of procedures and the application of clearly prescribed standard practice where the employee could make minor decisions and use some judgment.
  • Ability to work from objectives defined by supervisor or by explicit procedures and rules. Proceeds alone on routine work and refers questionable cases to supervisor. Finished work not regularly reviewed by supervisor. Performance of tasks and activities are reviewed by supervisor on a scheduled basis.
  • Strong computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to multi-task, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
