Job Details

I. Position Description

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining the WESP, Baghouses, Scrubbers, and CEMDAS/CEMS, and wastewater treatment operations; and opacity, Triboflow and particulate monitors to ensure absolute conformance to regulatory standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Inspects job performance to verify conformance to specifications and directs set-up and adjustments to instruments

* Inspects and tours department to detect existing or potential environmental, safety, and health hazards.

* Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate water flow. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine load requirements.

* Directs workers in dismantling, assembly, and installation. Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of process water. Make necessary flow adjustments as needed

* Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings. Maintains Q.C. and environmental logs of water discharge.

* Collects samples and prepares samples for analysis by the Q.C. laboratory.

* Troubleshoots problems associated with quality and implements changes necessary to maintain proper water quality standards.

* Studies productions schedules and estimates worker- hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

* Communicates Company policies and Labor Contract provisions to workers and enforces safety regulations. Interprets job orders and assigns duties to workers.

* Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department or work crew.

* Analyzes and assists in the resolution of work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve goals.

* Maintains time and production records. Estimates, requisitions and inspects materials.

* Observe trends in data and make necessary adjustments

* Complies with all Environmental, Health, Safety and Housekeeping Programs.

* Incorporates continuous improvement within the department.

* Must be able to work all shifts.

* Other duties, as assigned or deemed necessary.

II. Qualifications

A. PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS

* High school and college chemistry or math courses or equivalent experience

* Excellent interpersonal communications skills; written and verbal

* Mechanical Aptitude

* Leadership skills and self-motivation.

* Computer proficiency.

* Performs chemical analysis by optical methods.

* Must be able to monitor and evaluate WESP, Baghouse/Scrubber, and wastewater treatment operations.

* Must have a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in an industrial environment.

* Demonstrate ability to evaluate manometers and chart recordings to make necessary repairs.

* Demonstrate ability to perform minor Baghouse maintenance.

* Demonstrate ability to inspect and replace Baghouse bags.

* Ability to troubleshoot draft (vacuum) and wastewater treatment problems.

* Must be able to maintain all required checklists and reports.

B. POST-HIRE TRAINING

* Environmental training applicable to the job.

* Class "C" Wastewater Treatment license must be obtained within 2 years.

* Safety training for applicable equipment.

* Job instructional training, including WESP, Baghouses, Scrubbers, CEMDAS/CEMS, and wastewater treatment

* Chemical handling safety

* Quality system familiarization.

* ISO 14001 awareness, EMS objectives and targets, air emissions significant environmental impacts.

* OHSAS 18001 Awareness, OH&S-MS Objectives and Goals, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control

III. Physical Requirements & Work Environment

A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

B. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts; in high precarious places; and with explosives and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment.

* If duties require entry to an arsenic or cadmium-controlled area, appropriate respiratory protection must be worn.
