Research Specialist (2 of 4 opportunities) - MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study - Georgetown University Medical Center

The MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) ( is a national collaborative effort to learn more about the impact of chronic health conditions on those living with HIV. The Washington DC consortium is made up of two institutions under the leadership of Georgetown University: Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC), and the Inova Juniper Program.

The Research Specialist (2 of 4 current opportunities) serves as the primary contact for women participating in the long-term research studies - MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) and the Study of Treatment and Reproductive Outcomes (STAR). Both studies are multi-year studies, funded by the NIH, and provide recruitment, retention, and outreach services to facilitate continued participation in these studies and related sub-studies.

Duties include but are not limited to:

+ Carries out scripted interviews and records data according to research protocol

+ Identifies community resources and responds to various client problems, with appropriate referrals

+ Assists and/or participates in group activities and local Community Advisory Board meetings

+ Maintains work related certifications as needed. Contributes to study newsletter production

+ Depending on the skills of incumbent, performs other related duties as assigned

Work Interactions

Reporting to the MWCCS & STAR Project Director, the Research Specialist (2 of 4) works in collaboration with other research specialists, medical and data teams, the Project Coordinator, and the Principal Investigators.

Their visits are scheduled in coordination with the clinical team; their data entry and edits must be coordinated with the data team; and participant incentive payments and travel reimbursements must be coordinated with the administrative team.

Requirements and Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree - preference for a health or a related field

+ 1 to 3 years of practical experience

+ Exceptional interpersonal skills and detail-orientation

+ Analytical background, strong verbal and written communication, and organizational skills

+ Ability to work both independently and within the team

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

+ Knowledge of research method

+ Fluency in Spanish
