RN - PeriAnesthesia. 0.875 FTE, Day Shift - 10-hour shifts with shift times starting from 6:00 am to 10:00 am with end times ending as late as 8:30 pm. Both weekday and weekend on-call shifts are required for this position. ***Pediatric PeriAnesthesia experience preferred.

Purpose of position

This position exists to provide specialized nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures or medical interventions that require anesthesia. The Peri Anesthesia RN administers family-centered nursing care to patients, advises patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and/or provides skilled assistance in navigation of the health care system as appropriate to the developmental, cultural, emotional, and medical, surgical, or rehabilitative needs of the patient and their families.

Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient's condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.

Compensation & Benefit Information

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $37.93 - $64.78. Pay is dependent on several factors including number of hours worked within the field, education, and certification/licensure: $1.75weekend/ $2.75 evening/ $4.00 night differential is available for this position. A sign-on bonus is available for those who qualify. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Qualifications

Required

  • Documentation of completion of professional nursing program (RN program)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license through the MN Board of Nursing
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If candidate holds valid CPR for through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of employment.
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification of RN's providing direct patient care in Peri anesthesia. PALS must be obtained by the end of orientation or max of 3 months of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. ACLS must be obtained by the end of orientation or max of 3 months of hire.
  • Must be interested in working with people with short-term or long-term disabilities that begin in childhood.
  • Critical care experience
  • Physically able to work hours required and meet physical demands of the position. In certain departments, this will include being part of the off premises call schedule.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare related field
  • Prior nursing experience in a health-related setting
  • Pediatric care experience
  • Nursing Specialty Certification relevant to the position

2. Family centered care - Provides nursing care and health education reflecting specific patient, family, cultural and community needs.
Identifies the learning needs of the population served.
Implements an effective teaching plan, including educating patients and families about the anesthesia process and addressing their concerns to ensure they are prepared for the procedure.
Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
Seeks opportunity to evaluate effectiveness of health education as culturally and developmentally appropriate.

3. Autonomous Practice - Exercises independent judgment that influences care and
demonstrates understanding of potential clinical implications.
Supervises, delegates, and provides care based on the abilities and limitations of care personnel and patient acuity.
Identifies and incorporates evidence-based improvements into own daily work.

4. Procedures and Policies -Identifies, interprets, and implements organizational
policies and procedures according to regulations, professional and community
standards.
Protects the confidentiality of personal health information.

5. Active Engagement - Actively represents the department in committees, task
forces, unit activities or other work groups and disseminates information and
decisions to colleagues and peers using the Engaged Professional Practice Model.
Attend a minimum of 75% of department staff meetings.
Attend a minimum of 75% of committee meetings.
Demonstrates meaningful contributions to the productivity of the professional environment of the department.
Supports work of Nursing Collaborative Governance initiatives.
