Job Purpose

Straughan is currently seeking a full time Environmental Planner to join our Environmental Planning Team in a hybrid work environment. Participate in Noise, Air Quality, Cultural Resources, and Socioeconomic studies and prepare environmental inventories, assessments, and NEPA environmental documentation. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation of NEPA documents to include categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, or environmental impact statements.
  • Conducting or participating in environmental studies which could include Noise, Air, Cultural Resource Assessments, Section 4(f) Evaluations, Natural and Socioeconomic Analyses, and Environmental Justice.
  • Completing office tasks such as data management, analysis and interpretation, preparation of environmental approval applications, technical report preparation and/or fieldwork.
  • Prepare public involvement resources and materials.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, regulatory agency staff, and clients.
  • Assisting with environmental field studies and permitting.
  • Create/interpret ArcGIS Pro maps for use in the field, reports, and conduct basic geo-processing analyses (desired).
  • All other duties as required and assigned.


Requirements

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering, Public Administration, Environmental Science, Communications, Urban Studies, Natural Resources, or a related field.

Experience
  • 1 year of relevant experience. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both speech and writing are a must. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated and can work in a multi-disciplinary, environmentally conscious, team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass background check


Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro desired.
  • Experience preparing CEQ/NEPA documents for state and federal clients, and in leading/conducting associated studies (i.e., natural and socio-economic studies, environmental justice analysis, air quality and noise studies, 4(f) (impact evaluation, historical/cultural resource investigations, hazardous assessments).
  • Planning related community outreach experience desired.

  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
