PRN, 2:30pm - 10:00pm

JOB SUMMARY: This role efficiently and accurately receives, processes, and distributes specimens to the appropriate sections of the Laboratory. These tasks are performed using the computer or manual systems. This position properly labels specimens according to policy as well as cancel and/or combine orders to streamline the movement of specimens. Interprets established policies and procedures in order to determine the acceptability of specimens and check questionable test orders in a diplomatic manner.

Qualifications

Education & Training: Completion of an approved course for Clinical Laboratory Assistants (ASCP) or high school graduation or equivalency is required. Additional education (AA or BS Degree) in Biology, Chemistry or related field is preferred.

Work Orientation & Experience: A minimum of one (1) year related clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or healthcare environment preferred.

Skills & Abilities: Visual acuity and manual dexterity are required. Ability to: (a) receive and process specimens efficiently and accurately; (b) respond to emergency situations appropriately; (c) communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other hospital team members; (d) organize and manage time efficiently, setting appropriate priorities; (e) make independent decisions consistent with current policies and procedures; (f) project a positive image of the organization in support of Service Excellence expectations (g) adapt hours and availability to the changing needs of the Laboratory; (h) foster a service excellence atmosphere that contributes to a healing and compassionate environment.
