The Washington Institute for Public Affairs Research (WIPAR)The Washington Institute for Public Affairs Research (WIPAR) serves as a bridge between the academic and policy worlds, advancing scholarly research that addresses pressing issues and concerns. The Institute helps SPA researchers organize and support research projects and promotes collaborative work, effectively putting the lessons of academic research into practice. WIPAR helps faculty members navigate the proposal process, offering hands-on expertise in conceptualizing, drafting, and coordinating the process.

Research Program Coordinator Responsibilities:The Research Program Coordinator for the Washington Institute for Public Affairs Research (WIPAR) is responsible for executing and maintaining day-to-day operations within WIPAR and assisting SPA faculty in the process of identifying funding opportunities. Responsibilities include:

Researching and disseminating relevant funding opportunities including creating and distributing a monthly newsletter

Tracking faculty research interests and current funding

Searching for funding and maintaining a working knowledge of the current grant market

Creating and keeping departmental records

Tracking pre-award services and activities of WIPAR staff

Assisting in planning and executing WIPAR workshops and events

Role Overview:The Research Program Coordinator is responsible for executing WIPAR s mission. This may involve:

Working with faculty at the earlier stages of their research

Developing reports or finding information

Planning workshops or major events to support grant development and acquisition

This role also includes managing the WIPAR website, social media outlets, and the website s calendar of activities.

Reporting Structure:This position reports directly to WIPAR s Associate Director. The Research Program Coordinator works with SPA s Director of Research, WIPAR s Associate Director, the School of Public Affairs budget team, and faculty investigators conducting research with WIPAR.
