We need a passionate, highly skilled, and strong team player to organize the supply base and drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate must thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be able to take a leadership role in developing great processes and a top-notch supply base. This role requires an individual that can be effective at being hands-on in the short-term while developing a strategic path forward that will deliver world-class purchasing processes and service.

Responsibilities:

* The Purchasing Manager will: Develop supplier relationships and contracts that improve quality, security of supply, competitive pricing, and service.

* Partner with the Operations, R&D, and other Departments to develop and implement supply strategies for a wide variety of products and services.

* Collaborate with engineers and scientists to enable rapid technology development while establishing suppliers that scale reliably and cost effectively.

* Develop procurement processes and deploy new systems as needed in partnership with finance department.

* Proactively reduce risks of supply disruptions.

* Lead resolution of supplier quality issues.

* Support related procurement activities per requests by internal business partner functions.

Relevant experience and mindset:

* Supplier Management (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Security of Supply, and Service)

* Lead efforts to reduce risks within the supply base.

* Identify and deliver on cost savings opportunities. Contracts (Strategy Development, Negotiation & Compliance Management).

* Negotiate optimal terms with suppliers (price, delivery, and payment terms).

* Demand the best overall value.

* Clearly communicate requirements to suppliers, both verbally and in writing.

* Maintain current and accurate supplier data in the purchasing system (e.g. delivery dates, pricing, change orders).

* Deliver a high level of customer service within the company.

* Lead preparation and execution of Supplier Business Reviews.

* Compliance to procurement policies & procedures.

Expected Skills:

Supplier management

* Able to set high expectations and actively manage suppliers to deliver to a high performance level. High level of attention to detail and continuous supplier feedback.

Contract negotiations

* Able to develop a strategy with stakeholders, plan the negotiation and negotiate in a demanding yet professional manner.

Problem Solving

* Ability to quickly analyze problems, investigate and determine solutions.

Project Management

* Able to define goals and plans, then manage a project to successful completion.

Organization

* Able to manage a wide variety of tasks, maintain and communicate task status to stakeholders. Proactive follow-up to ensure on-time completion of deliverables.

Working knowledge of Point Purchasing or similar software.

* Able to optimize planning parameters and inventory levels while assuring product availability.

Analytical and presentation skills

* Able to present detailed analyses and proposals to all levels of management. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred additional qualifications:

* Bachelors degree strongly preferred.

* Experience managing material categories used in the life sciences or biotech industries, such as reagents, lab equipment, and labware.

* 5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment in which the expected skill set above was used extensively.

* Experience procuring within a GMP Manufacturing Environment.
