General Description

The purpose of this job within the organization is to serve as the Petersburg Bureau of Police crime analysis.

The job duty will report to the administrative services division. Crime Analysis will be responsible for compiling statistical data and keeping detailed reports for current crime trends, as well as any data that would help prevent and detour future crimes.

This individual must be able to work without constant/direct supervision with meticulous organizational skills as well as very detailed oriented, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. All worked created by this individual will be examined by their chain of command and forwarded appropriately.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job/class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary.

Essential Functions:

The incumbent will work monitoring video cameras and dispatching assistance as required.

Monitors and operates an integrated computer system that combines live camera feeds, computer aided dispatch and the police radio system.

Identify activity or behavior which necessitates a police response, such as criminal activity in progress, crowd monitoring, and traffic accidents/congestion!

Observes in progress calls for service to provide additional information, direct additional resources as needed, to track evolving situations, identification of possible suspects, and suspect vehicles.

Locating fleeing suspects, and relay information when on-scene personnel are unable to do so.
Perform technology-based investigative work in real-time to support communications, dispatch of calls for service and the response to those calls by public safety units; monitors camera systems and license plate readers relating to in progress situations and communicating with police resources utilizing police radios, phones, and the computer aided dispatch system.
Review archived camera feeds, license plate data and other digital evidence to assist officers/investigators in solving crime.

Collects relevant information and makes timely decisions central to police responses while working in a multifaceted technology driven environment.

Provide court testimony when necessary.

Answers phone calls to assist with any information or technical issues and questions.

Maintains daily, weekly, or monthly operational reports.

Gathers, analyzes, and interprets data for preparing reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Retired police officer or considerable work in a law enforcement agency

Or at least two years of experience in the Public Safety fields of Police and/or Fire-Rescue, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Have a working knowledge of but not limited to the following:

Microsoft office, Axon, Flock Safety, Fuses, and Law Enforcement Platforms

Valid Driver's License

U.S. Citizen (born or naturalized)
