Battelles Transportation Operations and Policy team is largely based out of Arlington, Virginia in Crystal City. We lead several task orders contracts with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), with ongoing projects examining Traffic Incident Management (TIM), Work Zone Management, Transportation System Management and Operations (TSMO), and work related to Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV). We perform Research, Development, Evaluation and Testing (RDT&E) of Advanced Driving Systems (ADS), are currently testing how Automated Vehicle technologies perform in adverse weather and developing and testing a Connected Vehicle application for rail crossing safety.

Battelles Transportation Division is currently seeking a rising **Mid-Senior Level Transportation Engineer/Planner III** to join our team in **Arlington, Virginia**. We are looking for a solid utility player who is driven and dynamic, and knowledgeable and has experience working in Transportation Operations, and preferably has experience working with FHWA or other federal agencies. This position has great growth potential!

****JOB SUMMARY****

The Transportation Engineer/Planner III requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in discipline and is expected to solve complex problems. The Transportation Engineer/Planner III works independently and receives minimal guidance. Incumbent may lead projects or project tasks within a broader project and will have accountability for on-going activities and meeting project objectives. Person also acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

The Transportation Engineer/Planner III provides support to projects under contract with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Transportation Research Board, State, and local entities. The candidate selected individual will help lead transportation research, analysis, data collection, and reporting activities. This position will support the development of technical documents for local, state, regional and/or national government initiatives that aim to influence and change behavior of the public and/or professionals (i.e., transportation engineers, state and local officials, planning, and policy professionals). This position requires in-depth knowledge of transportation engineering and planning principles, and experience in advancing the state of the art and practice of transportation operations. In addition to those stated above, areas of potential work assignments: Shared Mobility and Mobility on Demand, ITS Data and big data analytics, Performance Measurement, Systems Engineering, Traffic Management, Travel Time Reliability, Evaluation, ITS Standards, and Road User Charging and Managed Lanes. Any type of Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) experience is welcome. The candidate is expected to work on a full-time basis and report to the main office location in Arlington, VA. Role requires some travel to project sites (within the US) to support meetings, including meeting preparation and facilitation, writing reports, and supporting web presentations.

****MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES****

* Research on transportation topics including, but not limited to those stated above.

* Data collection and analysis

* Report preparation/technical writing

* Meeting preparation, attendance, and documentation

* Interact daily with functional peer groups, project leads, and management.

* Interact with outside customers.

* Contribute to proposals and project development planning activities.

****THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED****

* BS and six years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.

* MS and four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.

* PhD and one years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.

* Demonstrated understanding of surface transportation operation, policy, safety, and/or planning topics.

* Demonstrated ability to lead research and analytical projects and tasks.

* Self-motivated, organized, and detail oriented.

* US Persons

****THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED****

* Masters degree in Engineering or other relevant fields

* PMP certification

* Experience working with transportation agencies (Federal, State & Local, or regional)
