Description

In addition to the day-to-day warehouse and logistics responsibilities, the Shipping & Receiving Lead directly supports the Operations Manager in assisting with providing direction, instructions and guidance to a group(s) of individuals. The role of formal supervision of staff will remain with the Ops Manager as Leads are not directly responsible for performance reviews, appraisals or disciplinary activity, but their input is valued and will be sought after and listened to. The Lead is responsible for performing routine and non-routine tasks involved in the receiving, picking packing, shipping, inventory and movement of material within a warehouse. Typical duties include loading and unloading freight, checking for damage/accuracy, updating systems, putaway, and inventory management, picking and packing orders, kitting, and preparing material for shipment. Leads will interface with the customer or a regular basis. Quality is the number one criteria for Banneker's operation and all actions must be accomplished in the most quality conscious manner while also operating in the safest and most efficient manner possible. The Lead must always be cognizant for damaged product, quantity discrepancies or any other noticeable deficiencies. Commitment to safety, quality, attention to detail, strong work ethic and a positive attitude are key components of this position.

Requirements

Essential duties & responsibilities related to this position function include, but are not limited, to the following:

Leadership: Facilitates team operations by discussions through the sharing of information and knowledge, identification of teamwork issues, development of problem-solving recommendations, and recommendations of standardizing team operations; assist with updating metrics, completing various paperwork; assists with addressing and resolving customer complaints; provides continual evaluation of processes and procedures and suggests methods for improvement; promotes a high-quality work environment so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level.

Guidance: Provides day-to-day support for Team Members while serving as a resource and content expert to answer questions, provides clarity and guidance, and assists with issues and other needs; identify, assign, and follow-up on work activities of Team Members and assist leadership with daily operation of the distribution center; coordinate Team schedules with the Functional Leader who is responsible for approving requests.

Training: Assists with training, re-training and development of new and existing Team Members, including onboarding new hires; communicates clear instructions and actively listens for feedback; monitors work product to ensure the training provided is being put into use, and also to see if any additional training is needed; assesses the need for training and submits requests to Management.

Receiving/Put-Away: Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations. Sort materials for purchase order and non-purchase order receipts and route to the designated location. Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment; may process return shipments from customers. Efficiently stack and store product in the appropriate areas. Physically putaway received products and update inventory management system using RF scanning equipment.

Quality: Examine and verify incoming and outgoing material shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of shipment and inspect for damage. Complete visual inspection and shipping documentation. Report any quality issues or discrepancies including damaged material and material shortages/overages. Inspects shipments for damages, defects and quantity discrepancies; records discrepancies or damages and notifies Management.

Order Picking/Kitting: Read customer orders, work orders, shipping orders or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, distributed and/or shipped. Pull and assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets or shelves, or relocate orders to a holding area or shipping department. Pull and prepare product for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped. Perform picking duties in an efficient manner that meets customer service standards. Perform kitting and/or assembly of components in accordance with customer specifications.

Inventory Management: Perform all tasks in compliance with preservation and inventory control policies and procedures. Assist in physical inventories. Ensure proper stock rotation. Perform cycle counts, physical inventories as required. Keep appropriate records and reports to maintain tight inventory control and security procedures.

Loading: Prepare and package material for pick-up or delivery (palletize, strapping, stretch-wrapping, etc.), seal, and label materials to prepare for shipping, ensuring all unique customer shipping requirements are met. Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into trucks.

EHS & Security: Wear the approved personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Maintains safe and clean work environment using 5s principles and by keeping workstations, aisles, storage locations and other warehouse areas neat and organized at all times. May be assigned facilities duties as needed (e.g. sweep, dust, mop, etc.). Adhere to and promote company safety and security policies and procedures including local, state, and federal guidelines.

Other: Contributes to maintaining compliance to Quality Management System certifications and participates in projects and initiatives focused on driving Continual Improvement throughout the organization (i.e. Kaizen events).

Assists with special projects from time to time as required and performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid non-CDL driver's license or Government issued ID assigned by the state of current residence.

Able to work a flexible work schedule as needed including planned and unplanned schedules, which may include mandatory overtime and weekends.

Must be professional at all times.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or clear E-Verify and successfully pass a Background Check.

Team Members may be asked to secure a Government Security Clearance. Type Required: SECRET

Must be willing to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in on-going random drug screen program (as applicable).

Must pass pre-employment tests, if applicable.

Must possess willingness, tolerance and endurance to work long or irregular hours during peak seasons, including weekends if necessary.

KNOWLEDGE

High school diploma or GED required.

Great attention to detail with ability to focus on the task at hand and basic math skills including counting up to 1,000, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to identify individual items and sub-items.

Knowledge of forklifts, their operation and limitations, including their designs and uses. Understand the use of warehouse management systems and RF scanning equipment.

Database Software: Microsoft Access

Spreadsheet and Word Processing Software: Microsoft Office Suite

Inventory Software: Synapse WMS or Similar

May be required to complete a DOT physical, as required, to gain Medical Certificate.

EXPERIENCE

1 (one) to 3 (three) years of working knowledge of handling, storing, and shipping materials or supplies; operating material handling equipment; accessing information on a computer; reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
