Traveling Cable Technician


Job Details

IMTAS is hiring part-time, traveling, cable technicians to work in various locations throughout the United States.

The Cabling Installation Technician is responsible for performing the installation of premise network cabling systems.

Detailed responsibilities of this position are:

1. Install, label and test premise cabling, connections, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, Protective Distribution System (PDS) conduit, and associated hardware.

2. Updating cable run sheets and other documentation as required.

3. Read and interpret system installation drawings and design packages, and apply that knowledge to cabling installations

4. Install LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and test fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.

5. Labeling of cables and associated hardware according to standards and cable run sheets.

6. Install various types of cable tray, Protective Distribution Systems (PDS) and EMT conduit up to 4 inches.

7. Able to fusion splice fiber optic cable.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

1. Must be highly proficient in the installation and test of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.

2. Possess a demonstrated ability in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages, and applying that knowledge to the cabling installation, and promoting a safe work environment and implementing safe work practices.

3. Must be proficient in the proper handling, installation, of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.

4. Must be proficient in the installation of various types of cable tray, PDS, and EMT conduit up to 4 inches.

5. A minimum of two (2) years? experience in the installation of copper and fiber-optic cable plants is required

6. Must possess a valid Driver?s License

a. Preferred but not required: Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer 1 (INST1), BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) and BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) certification are highly desirable.

Must have the following required certifications before start date:

1. Must be confined space certified for outside plant installations.

2. Permit-Required Confined Spaces Certification

3. Forklift Certification

4. Aerial and Scissor Lifts

Cabling Installation Technician (O&M) (SENIOR)

The On-site Cabling Team Lead is responsible for directing and leading a crew, as well as participating in the installation of premise network cabling systems at stateside and overseas FBI offices.

Detailed responsibilities of this position are:

1. Perform the installation, labeling and testing of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.

2. Update cable run sheets and other documentation as required.

3. Serve as the subject matter expert in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages.

4. Promote a safe work environment and implement safe work practices.

5. Provide guidance and perform quality assurance checks for subordinate cabling personnel in the installation, of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems, as well as various types of cable tray, PDS, and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) conduit up to 4 inches. able to fusion splice fiber optic cable.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

1. Be highly proficient in the installation and testing of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.

2. Must be proficient in the techniques for fusion splicing, termination and outside plant installation.

3. Understand how to interpret work orders and prints to determine what is required per project.

4. Be proficient in the use of splicing technology such as OTDRs, VFL, OLTS.

5. Be proficient in the proper handling and installation of LC, MTRJ, SC, RJ45 connector terminations, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.

6. Be proficient in the installation of various types of cable tray, PDS, and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) conduit up to 4 inches.

7. Be capable of leading and instructing a team of cabling technicians, and properly documenting any red-line changes to drawing packages.

8. Be an effective communicator in coordinating installation work with subordinates and with office personnel.

9. A minimum of seven (7) years? experience in the installation of copper and fiber-optic cable plants is required.

10. Must possess a valid Driver?s License

a. Preferred but not required: Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Technician, , BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) and BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) certification are highly desirable.
